Hi @JoyBee&Ravan , this is the one I use, I don't know if it's the same one you're looking for:@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA)
I'm trying to find the Pet probiotics you mentioned. (ReNew Ultimate probiotics) the only thing I can find with that name is for Women ,not a cat?
(Both my kitties were on Clavamox for Uti.)
Ella & Rusty mentioned " ReNew Ultimate probiotics" I would guess probiotics for a Cat would be "different" than that for a Human.this is the one I use,
No, I don't think renew life makes feline probiotics. This I believe is the "basic" Ultimate, as opposed to ultimate critical care, ultimate womens, Ultimate extra care, etc.Ella & Rusty mentioned " ReNew Ultimate probiotics" I would guess probiotics for a Cat would be "different" than that for a Human.
Is your's specifically for a Feline?
Could you take a peek at my Ravan's SS & tell me,is he regulated?
This is the one that @Marje and Gracie recommended yo me.
You give them human probiotics because the bacteria in the cat gut have never been studied enough to know of what it is comprised and human probiotics have a much higher CFU thus they stand a chance of making it through the high acidity of the cat stomach acid (which is more acidic than humans). You can also make homemade kefir for them if you have a source.@Ti-Mousse
Aren't these probiotics for Humans? Cats have a very different intestinal microbiome than we do ,so why would we give them "human" probiotics?
“The microflora in a cat's small and large intestine are different than for people, so we can't assume that human probiotics will work in cats,”
- Not treated [blood glucose typically above 300 mg/dl (16.7 mmol/L), poor clinical signs]
- Treated but not regulated [often above 300 (16.7) and rarely near 100 (5.6), poor clinical signs]
- Regulated [generally below 300 (16.7) with glucose nadir near 100 (5.6), good clinical signs, no hypoglycemia]
- Well regulated [generally below 200-250 (11.1-13.9) and often near 100 (5.6), no hypoglycemia]
- Tightly regulated [generally below 150 (8.3) and usually in the 60-120 (3.3-6.7) range, no hypoglycemia, still receiving insulin]
- Normalized [60-120 (3.3-6.7) except perhaps directly after meals -- usually not receiving insulin]
Thanks for the info on probiotics and "regulation" definition! You give them human probiotics because the bacteria in the cat gut have never been studied enough to know of what it is comprised and human probiotics have a much higher CFU thus they stand a chance of making it through the high acidity of the cat stomach acid (which is more acidic than humans). I use the Renew Life Ultimate Flora probiotics. If you are using when the kitty is on antibiotics, you want the much higher CFU..the big guns but be sure you give them at a totally opposite time of the antibiotic. For maintenance, you can go with 15b or 30b. My vet did nutrition response testing of this product on my cats and they tested much higher for it than the animal probiotics. ECID but she agrees with the reasons to give human probiotics to a cat. They just pet ones at the clinic for dogs so we thought we’d see how they compared in testing.
My vet gives clindamycin injection at the dental and then sends me home with liquid clindamycin, if needed, which we can give 1-2 weeks based on the need.
Here are the “regulation” definitions:
Therefore, Ravan appears to be tightly Regulated!Great job!
You’re welcome! Thanks for the info on probiotics and "regulation" definition!
Great job!
The Renew Life Ultimate Flora probiotics are for humans. But many here use them for their cats (as you can see from the above comments). I used them for Rusty because people here had good results.@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA)
