It's a "B E A U T I F U L L" DAY! Sun is shining & it's about 78 degrees! Good day to work in my yard :D

Hope you all have good weather too. Even if you don't, it's still a good day :joyful:

I am SO glad you're having a bright and sunny day! perfect!

I was thinking about you, and Peggy-Sue's dental and I have a really good feeling about Tuesday! I think it's going to go really well :). Also, I can see why you love your vet so much! It is awesome that he has recognized all of your hard work and that he would love to use you as an example for other parents with cats diagnosed with diabetes in an effort to prevent unnecessary euthanasia. You may make such a difference for so many cats :D

Sunny days signalling good things to come in the future :joyful:

Ella & Rusty mentioned " ReNew Ultimate probiotics" I would guess probiotics for a Cat would be "different" than that for a Human.

Is your's specifically for a Feline?
No, I don't think renew life makes feline probiotics. This I believe is the "basic" Ultimate, as opposed to ultimate critical care, ultimate womens, Ultimate extra care, etc.
Many probiotics created by the vet industry for pets apparently don't contain appropriate strains, or enough numbers, or whatever. The feline IBD site has lots of info on probiotics.

Could you take a peek at my Ravan's SS & tell me,is he regulated?

That is one beautiful ssheet! Definitely! He stays in the 'normal' range all the time. Sure it varies up and down but glucose is never a stable number and the 'shape' doesn't matter nearly as much as the 'range'. A squirrel, feeling a bit extra frisky and running like a 'kit-idiot', MamaBean leaving, has a hairball... :)

This is the one that @Marje and Gracie recommended yo me.

I find it VERY annoying that the dosage is the same for a 30 lb dog as for a 6 lb cat!

What do you consider a "good" antibiotic for after dental work? My vet used a Convenia injection when Peggy Sue had a UTI. Marje said she would not ever recommend it because her kitty had a bad reaction.

I figure after doing dental they rather give an injection instead of messing with a pill?

What did your vet use?

@Ti-Mousse
Aren't these probiotics for Humans? Cats have a very different intestinal microbiome than we do ,so why would we give them "human" probiotics?

“The microflora in a cat's small and large intestine are different than for people, so we can't assume that human probiotics will work in cats,”

You give them human probiotics because the bacteria in the cat gut have never been studied enough to know of what it is comprised and human probiotics have a much higher CFU thus they stand a chance of making it through the high acidity of the cat stomach acid (which is more acidic than humans). You can also make homemade kefir for them if you have a source.

I use the Renew Life Ultimate Flora probiotics. If you are using when the kitty is on antibiotics, you want the much higher CFU..the big guns but be sure you give them at a totally opposite time of the antibiotic. For maintenance, you can go with 15b or 30b. My vet did nutrition response testing of this product on my cats and they tested much higher for it than the animal probiotics. ECID but she agrees with the reasons to give human probiotics to a cat. They just pet ones at the clinic for dogs so we thought we’d see how they compared in testing.

My vet gives clindamycin injection at the dental and then sends me home with liquid clindamycin, if needed, which we can give 1-2 weeks based on the need.

Here are the “regulation” definitions:

    • Not treated [blood glucose typically above 300 mg/dl (16.7 mmol/L), poor clinical signs]
    • Treated but not regulated [often above 300 (16.7) and rarely near 100 (5.6), poor clinical signs]
    • Regulated [generally below 300 (16.7) with glucose nadir near 100 (5.6), good clinical signs, no hypoglycemia]
    • Well regulated [generally below 200-250 (11.1-13.9) and often near 100 (5.6), no hypoglycemia]
    • Tightly regulated [generally below 150 (8.3) and usually in the 60-120 (3.3-6.7) range, no hypoglycemia, still receiving insulin]
    • Normalized [60-120 (3.3-6.7) except perhaps directly after meals -- usually not receiving insulin]
Therefore, Ravan appears to be tightly Regulated! :D:D Great job!

Thanks for the info on probiotics and "regulation" definition!

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA)

I'm trying to find the Pet probiotics you mentioned. (ReNew Ultimate probiotics) the only thing I can find with that name is for Women ,not a cat?

(Both my kitties were on Clavamox for Uti.)
The Renew Life Ultimate Flora probiotics are for humans. But many here use them for their cats (as you can see from the above comments). I used them for Rusty because people here had good results.

Good luck!

Hi joy, I answered your questions in the comments on my thread, but for some reason can't tag you! Just so you know... With love, nikki
