A question...can stress cause a *decrease* in BG levels? I'm going to tag @Wendy&Neko as I think you mentioned that Neko's BG was lower when she was at/visited the vet, as happened with Willow on March 11 (she usually doesn't continue to drop like that). I'm not sure if her lower numbers today are because she's constipated (keeps trying to poop, sometimes pees, laid down in LB for a couple of moments). Her last poop was diarrhea ending Monday morning; I wouldn't have expected any from Willow until Tuesday evening or night, or even this morning as it's not unusual for her to skip a day or two; it's just the obvious constipation/urge to poop/straining that is worrisome.

I'd stopped her miralax during the diarrhea episodes, and only restarted today; apparently left it a bit too late. We kept her on pumpkin and SEB though.

We did start transitioning her to a even lower carb food on Sunday night, but she's still only at 1 part lower carb : 2 parts low carb, so I don't think that's it.
(Only picked that food because it's one of two readily available that's low carb and low phos. She has been getting FF classic pates, chicken or chicken/liver or turkey/giblets, all in the 3-4% carb range I think; the new is weruva glam'n'punk, at 1%.)

Thanks for any thoughts/ advice. With love, Nikki

Yes, stress can cause a decrease in BGs in some cats....my Trix was also one of those who would drop after a vetty visit. They do like to keep us guessing!

It IS possible that the food transition could be contributing to her lower BGs, too....depending on how carb-sensitive a kitty is, even a small change in either direction can possibly have a bigger-than-expected impact.

I wonder why Willow gets Hairballs so often? I read it can cause problems in the Digestive tract also. Do you brush her frequently? I had several kitties with long fur & none ever had a hairball?

Do you give her ANY dry food at all? I do feel that dry food can cause problems.

I now give all 3 of my cats SEB once a day. A Raw meat diet can cause constipation especially in older cats. So far everyone is pooping just fine!

Some people add the SEB to their food. I find if I give it as a liquid with a feeding syringe it works better for them. I mix 1/2 cap in a bit of water till it's liquidy. I think it coats their stomach & intestines better.
( lubricating qualities make it desirable to try for pets, especially cats, with constipation. )

I hope Willow feels better soon! :):bighug:

Hi Joy, Willow used to have IBD (ever since she was a kitten until she was, I think, 10), so her digestive system will never be 100%. She doesn't get hairballs per se, just quite small bundles of fairly loose fur occasionally. (not the mouse-size firm wads of fur that most consider a hairball). She eats 100% wet in multiple small meals, gets SEB daily. Syringing is far too stressful for her. Her main uncontrolled problem now is intestinal motility , and she doesn't move much because of her neuropathy. But today's issue is I believe the stool is hard and difficult to pass, because I stopped her miralax and yolk while she had diarrhea from antibiotics for her UTI. But her UTI seems to be much better; her appetite is great, she's resting, sleeping and grooming, so not in too much discomfort; she's only going to the LB to try to poop maybe once an hour. Thank you :) With love, Nikki

I see Willow must have been hanging out with Benny today, trying to catch those sharkies! I'm glad they both decided to come out of the deep water. :cat:

Yes stress can lower numbers as Amy says. But usually constipation raises it. I think what you could be see happening is some pancreatic healing. Go Willow! And I mean that both ways.
Wouldn't that be lovely, thank you! And I hope she poops soon....
with love, Nikki

Thanks :) No poops yet, but she's relaxed, eating well, peeing and grooming :) I hope she poops soon too! lol
