December 30, 2018 Condo - D-Mannose started for possible UTI
Good morning all,
I'm a cranky mess this morning, haha. Even though I was going to be in a good mood and get through my last work day before I have the next 2 days off. The forecast for today was a chance of light snow. I woke up today and realized as I was leaving for work that we were in a full blown blizzard.
I think the blowing snow/visibility was worse today than it was for the blizzard last week. Good times. It's supposed to go til about 6pm this evening and then be super cold overnight. I just hope I don't get stuck on the way home.
As for Lou, I called the vet today to make an appointment, and the only option I got was to bring him to the vet to leave him, possibly overnight, until they get a urine specimen. I expressed my displeasure about that, especially considering he's diabetic. "Oh you can just bring his insulin and leave it and we can give it to him." I asked if there's someone there overnight, and she said no. So I'm supposed to potentially leave my diabetic overnight without anyone to watch him? So I asked if a specimen is left overnight, when is it tested? "Oh the first person in will test it."
It won't even be good anymore! I asked about the ___centesis process, but apparently they only do that if they can't get a urine sample after 24 hours.
So they don't care about getting a "clean catch" sample that can be cultured. I am in complete and utter shock. THIS is the place I've been bringing my kids? THIS is the place I trust to look after my pets?! I'm so upset right now. How can I bring them back if they don't even know how to do basic testing? Can I trust any manual testing they've done at this point if they don't even know the basics (or timeframes) for testing urines? My only sadness about not going back there is they're literally down the street from our house. It's nice that they're so close.
Needless to say, I don't know what to do at this point. The holiday is throwing everything off anyway, but I guess I'm in the market for a new vet. I should probably talk to Caleb to see if I'm overreacting, but I don't think I am. Hopefully I can get him in somewhere else on Wednesday. I started the D-Mannose last night at PMPS and I'm giving him 1 tsp 4 times per day. Hopefully this will help until I can get him in to someone to make sure nothing else is going on. I'm planning in increasing him tomorrow morning to 3.0u. I thought about doing it tonight, but I guess I'll give it the full 6 cycles to ensure it's not working right.
I hope you all have a wonderful and stress-free day today. Sending vines to Tracey and Mr. Jones (@Tracey&Jones) and to anyone else in need.
