Chris and Red&Rover - lemme know if I need to stay on. I can be on for another 2 hours as it is 11:45pm here. If it was me, and Kylee is not coming up, I would consider more sugar.

I'm good for about 45 minutes but that's pushing it (12:45 am for me). If you could stay on, that would be great.

+2 34 She seems fine. She is at least climbing up.

That's still too low

Give her another few drops of honey mixed with a few teaspoons of just the "gravy" part of the food and test again in 20 minutes.

If you pop the top on the can and then put it back down, you can "squeeze" the gravy into another bowl. That's where most of the carbs are.

Do you know where the nearest emergency vet is? Just in case

Summary:
PMPS 8pm, BG = 54
+1, BG = 30, gravy food and karo given
+2, BG = 34

This is still a crucial time, and still an emergency status as Chris said.

Renee - I did this once when Mala was first diagnosed. We over-shot her dose, and threw her into very low blood sugar territory. The others advising you are absolutely correct - you must stay with her, you must keep testing and feeding. She's not out of the woods yet.

Sending you all our love and concern. This is a hard part of this whole sugar thing. Make yourself some tea or set an alarm, if you need to.

I am feeding her some more, but I don't want to over feed her. She acts so hungry. Is that what too much insilin does to them?

If you haven't tested her yet, please do so and post her numbers. The volunteers staying up with you need data in order to help.

How are YOU doing?

When they drop too low, their instinct is to eat to try to bring their blood glucose up, so it's normal that she's hungry.....but you don't want to overfeed her now because you may NEED her to continue to eat for quite awhile yet.

Please test again now!

Do you know where the nearest ER vet is?

If it helps any, I'm diabetic, too. when I drop into low glucose ranges, I'm ravenous. To bring up my numbers, I first turn to fast acting and short term carbs - fruit juice, a candy bar, something like that. But if I don't eat anything else, those carbs will run out very quickly, so I follow it up with moderate carbs - crackers, bread, milk.

So as others suggest, alternate between honey and gravy. Keep testing. 20 is a dangerous level, and she's not okay yet. You've got this.

I seriously think you may want to consider taking her into an emergency vet.

She's getting a lot of sugar and carbs and it's not budging her
I agree with Chris. Not only is the sugar and carbs doing nothing, this is very early in the cycle... not to mention, given similar circumstances, elongated hypos are possible/probable with the long acting insulins. That means they've been known to last 16 - 17 hours.

I strongly urge you to consider calling the nearest ER, tell them what's happened and that you're on your way. Give honey/syrup before you leave and take the bottle with you to administer along the way if necessary.

Why can't I try that. It worked with the honey the first time.

You can....but seriously, 20's are nothing to fool with....most cats would be having seizures at this point

Kibble takes longer to break down and get into the bloodstream and even if it's got honey on it, the honey you've been giving already has done nothing.

Some things you just can't handle at home. We all just want Kylee to be safe

Previously when you gave dry food or honey, the BG at shot time was much higher and the low numbers were later in the cycle. That is not the case tonight. This is much, much more serious.

Some cats show few or no symptoms of a hypo until it is too late and they start having seizures.

Dip your finger generously in the honey jar and swipe her gums. Call the ER and tell them you are coming in. Take the honey with you in the car.

The first time this happened I have her dry food. Why can't I try that. It worked with the honey the first time.
I may be wrong, but as I recall, the first time this happened you weren't dealing a full depot. This time it's different because the repeated doses of Lantus have built up in her system. This means it'll take more to stop this than it did the first time around.

FWIW, in 12 years I've seen more than my share of similar situations. IMHO, you're dealing with a situation that could go sour at a moments notice. As Jeff said, this has become critical. Please go to an ER. They are equipped to handle this emergency in ways that you cannot at home.

I'm all for handling things at home, but you're in over your head. Take Kylee to the ER, please.

She is next to me and can't understand why I won't let her out of my bedroom. Purring like crazy and is playing with a string.
That's wonderful, but it can change at a moments notice and then it'll be too late.

Seriously, are you prepared to stay awake to closely monitor and feed her for what could be another 12 - 14 hours? Will she be able to consume enough food and/or honey to keep her numbers up over the long haul? Most kitty's would vomit... and then what?

I'm sorry for being so blunt, but this is an emergency. Please err on the side of caution.

You need to think about the worst outcome. You're gambling with Kylee's life. You need to take her to the vet. Tonight. As soon as you can.

She is your girl and she trusts you. Do the right thing. We all want a good outcome tonight.
