It would be the same process as when you sent the PDF, but you'd have to select the Google Sheets option I believe. Did you have the send a copy option? I was able to use that and select Email, Gmail, or Save to Drive option. I think you'd want the Email or Gmail option to send to your new email addy.

it arrived in my email, but as a PDF file not really useful, so I'm downloading excel now. Then I should be able to save it in excel, and then mail it again...I hope

Do you have the big blue SHARE button when you open the spreadsheet? Wait, are you still seeing that on your phone? If so, definitely email it to yourself. If not we can try to work from your computer to resave as a edit-able document.

Well, it is editable, but I get view only. I hit the share button and then I sent it to my email as someone who is able to edit it.
OK I got the link in my email and I hope it is opening for edit.
Nope it is still view only

yes, and I did that. then I requested edit, and named myself as the person who can edit. but I still cannot edit. Worse , only my ;avs and 2016 are accessible. But on my phone everything is shown

OMG...now my phone says the document is missing
WHOA! SO not cool! Well. I think I'm flummoxed, and that's not easy for me to admit. :( A last ditch idea I had was to perhaps talk with someone who maybe commented on a recent post. Perhaps they have your SS in their Quick Access.

I searched for Google help and I found some options for finding missing files below:
Check the activity panel
  1. On a computer, go to drive.google.com.
  2. On the left, click My Drive.
  3. At the top right, click Info
    XlsrIFqP56LzBtVgNwWTfd3KrZLVhvWe8TgPhrgY4zv7UyGOpQZaMfGZBUGX5Z-2wk0=w18
    .
  4. Scroll down and look for your file.
Try an advanced search
  1. Using a computer, go to the search bar and click the Down arrow
    76B4941B08D1516AC7336D5A3C2E7914920D
    .
  2. Use the advanced search options to find your file, like "Type: Spreadsheets."
If nothing there works, you can open a chat with a Drive specialist. The link with the info above and access to the specialist is located at: https://support.google.com/drive/answer/1716222?hl=en&ref_topic=14951. Hopefully they'd be able to help you find it. I'm so sorry I couldn't help you more. :(

You did wonderfully, and if I'd only downloaded the whole file we'd have been fine. unfortunately it took too long and my phone finally followed my computer and deleted the file.
All I have is data from the last few days. Wait. I probably have a few weeks of data in my meter. So I'll keep the labs and 2016 and go to 2098 and re record as much data as I have saved in the 2 meters I have used.

Thank you. What I think happened is that Google screwed up. I'll call them and see if their servers recorded at least a shadow of the file.

Long thread. Did you look in Google Drive -> Trash?
If you accidentally deleted it within Google, it should be in the Google Drive -> Trash.

See picture below.
If you are working in 2 different accounts, you need to log off one account, then log into the other account to see the Google Drive in that other account.

If the file is not in "Google Drive -> My Drive"
or
"Google Drive -> Trash"
then it may be permanently gone.

I admin google gsuite for our small company. If you are using google sync, it is possible there is a cached version on your PC somewhere. But if you did the delete and then did a sync, that will delete it from the PC as well. If you did a delete but not a sync, it could still be there.

The problem is that I did not do a delete. I did not log off last night, just let the computer sleep. This morning when I tried to access the already loaded SS sheet, I got a message saying that something did not go right - an error had occurred. Instructed me to reload the file. I did, and then I got the message, file cannot be found. Meanwhile I was able to load the file on my LG smart phone, but after several hours, it disappeared from my smart phone as well. I did not delete anything ever, but I think the file got corrupted somehow. Is it possible that one of the google servers has it , or at least a shadow of it?

Most likely your browser has cached some info about your old email/old info....You can do this: Use a different browser (if you have one)...not sure what you're using but you can look under Options/Internet History and try deleting your history. Clear out your cache so to speak - so it doesn't know about where you were before. If you have a new email try logging into the FelineDiabetes.com Forum with that new info - and see if it can find your SS then. It's most likely tangled up in the biz about old email vs new email - it's a matter of what account it thinks your SS is associated with...hope that helps...
Ok, sorry I didn't read the whole thread. Yes, google will have it for probably 72 hours. Sometimes longer.

I would contact Google Support. It will help if you can remember the filename or part of the filename.

Go to Google support (link below). Here is the place to start. Click "Contact Us" in upper right.

I did file the report and I did know the name of the file. I gave them a ton of information, so they should be able to find it. I am so glad you suggested it as did Amanda. The two of you suggesting it determined me to do it.

Glad I could help. And I am sure they will restore your file.

In the end it is just a spreadsheet. I noticed a few people (including me) starting new 1/2 year spreadsheets for 2018 to reduce scrolling for new entries. If you think the data file could be lost in the future, you can always download it as a separate excel speradsheet, which is what I did for Leo last year because I wanted to play around in Excel which is faster than google drive's "sheets".

They sent me this letter. I answered all their questions, but some I had already answered in my email to them. Do they even read them?:

Hi, Kathleen.

Thanks for contacting Google Support. How are you today? I hope this email finds you well.

I really appreciate your time in reaching us about the missing file. No worries, I'd be delighted to assist you.

By the way, thank you so much for the additional information. A friendly reminder that I can recover files, photos, and videos that were deleted under Google Drive in a certain period is time. You can check the file.

Please reply with the following details to help us investigate your issue:

  1. Have you tried searching for the missing file using the Google Drive search bar? This search bar is present at the top of Google Drive.
    • You can refine a search in Google Drive with advanced searches. To know more about the advanced search feature in Google Drive, check this help article.
  2. Have you tried checking the trash in your Google Drive?
  3. Have you tried viewing all the items present in your Google Drive? Here's the direct link to see all your items, sorted by the quota used - https://drive.google.com/drive/quota.
  4. Were you using the Google Drive application to sync your files? If yes, was the file successfully synced?
    • The 'Sync complete' pop-up appears from the Drive application if the file has synced successfully.
  5. Are you the owner of the file?
    • If yes, do you ever log into any other email addresses that the file could possibly be under?
    • If no, what's the email address of the owner?
  6. Have you tried checking the activity panel of your Google Drive? Activity tracking lets you view the history of changes to files and folders in 'My Drive'. See how to track activity of files and folders in My Drive.
  7. Do you have the URL of the missing file? You can find this URL by checking your browser's history or by looking through emails where you may have shared the document with someone.

These details about the missing file would be very helpful.

Thanks!
Timmy

Google, like any big company is trying to save support costs. I have worked in the computer industry for years. You would be surprised that people don't read the documentation and just want immediate handholding. That is not the case here, but they don't know that yet.

I managed some IT guys at a company. Some samples of end-user issues:
"My computer won't power on."
Did you check to see if it was plugged in? They had kicked the plug out of the cube wall socket.

"This bank of computers won't get internet access."
Did you check the internet switch that I told you about 10 times? Is it plugged in? Is it still connected or did someone move it?
They had kicked the power off that too - in a different month.

"Google is down, I can't get email."
Did you check the google "up time page" that I have sent out on a monthly basis? That shows if google apps are having issues.

"I need my ethernet cable routed by 2 hours from now in my office. This is critical for this evening".
The cable was moved.
The person went home at 5pm after their last meeting.
In subsequent months, they wondered why we didn't drop everything we were doing and run to their aid. It turns out we had good memories, and that person was pretty unpleasant in general.

Well they answered me immediately after I gave them the requested info', and stated that they had located some recently deleted files:

Yes that sounds typical. I did printer support for Macs at one of the baby bells some years ago.

They did answer me saying that they found some files, but unfortunately the file is just the partial one that I had already recovered.

Ugh......I had this happen to me once. Luckily, I saved the email when I first started the SS in a folder and could bring it up from that folder. I hope someone can help you as this is over my head as I am a tech mo mo.
Thank you so much for the awesome idea! I emailed both a copy and then the link to myself just in case mine ever grows legs and walks off. :D

Oh what a bummer! I wonder what the heck happened to it?!

I only see for today's activity, some ss sheets belonging to other people. I wonder if I am searching incorrectly?

@Bobbie And Bubba

The only issue with this is that if the file is deleted and not recoverable, having the link won’t help. I have editing rights to TiTi’s SS and I also have the link. But the SS has somehow been deleted. It would be very unusual for Google to just delete it or for it to be corrupted to the point where it would totally disappear. Kathy....is there any chance your google account was hacked? In that case, someone could have signed in as you and deleted it. Even still, it should be in your google trash and recoverable or listed in the activity list in google drive that you deleted it.

If you can PM me and you still have the pdf, I might be able to convert it back to a google sheet for you. In fact, any link you can send me....even the one to the 2016 SS that you found, will help.

That's a really good point. I also went ahead and made my 2017 and the beginning of 2018 spreadsheets their own documents so I had backups. Odds are they wouldn't all be lost at once. I think in light of this situation, I am going to also print off copies of my previous spreadsheets just in case.

Excellent idea. You can also save them to your hard drive and then back them up there from time to time. If you lost them in between backups, at least you’d have some recoverable data.

However, I’ve had Gracie’s SSs (old and most recent) on google drive for 8 years and never had an issue. That’s what makes me wonder if Kathy’s google account was hacked.

It is pretty rare for a file to spontaneously corrupt on Google Drive. I only knew one other person who had a google drive issue. More often I see errors in the application itself. And missing features. Excel is still a lot better than Google Sheets.

Both files only go to 2016. At,least they do have the labs.

Kathy

I have been mulling over whether a system restore would work or not since the SS is on Google Drive and not on your hard drive. (Did you make sure you haven’t saved a copy on your hard drive at some point?).

If you have a Mac and a Time Capsule or a PC and an external hard drive, you could try and go back a few days to restore but my guess is that it’s gone since it wasn’t stored on your hard drive.
