Next Monday I start a new job and with it, of course, things will change for my furkids.
Right now Jester has me available so he can have the equivalent of free-feeding, as he prefers. But now I'll be away for around nine hours a day and that freedom goes away.
Today I managed to get him to eat almost a can of food around his morning insulin - which is good. Took about an hour - which is normal, but sucks.
I can't leave the food out because Sage - my tortie - will likely eat it instead of Jester. She tends to push the others away and eats out from under them. Plus Jester will wander away from his dish and wait for me to move it to his new location (don't ask).
Those expensive timed feeders won't work for that reason too.
I've been monitoring his bg all week and, for the most part, I think he should be okay without all the mini-feedings. But he'll be one hungry kitty when I get home.
Here's my big dilemma / concern:
I'm shifting his morning insulin dosage to about 7:00AM, but I'll get home around 5:00pm and he's going to want to eat.
Do I do his PMPS right away, feed him, then wait until about 7:00pm to give him the evening dosage?
I should say that there are evenings I go out and need to leave before 6:30 (and one that I have to be gone before 6:00pm) - so those nights I'll be adjusting his injection for that anyway.
I'm thinking that there's not a big difference between a 7:00am and 6:00pm schedule. Would that be a big deal?
Input would be most appreciated.
