Cat given 10 time overdose at vets

I'm sorry I'm so late with the reply! She is at home and doing wonderfully. It was my first day back at work from an extended vacation and I was swamped until a few moments ago.

Her vision seems back to normal, she's eating, purring, walking about -- everything she used to do. It's almost like the past few days were simply a nightmare. They've dropped her down from 1.25 to .5 units of ProZinc twice per day. We take her back in February for a 24 glucose curve to see how well her body has adjusted. We're heading out tomorrow for more low-carb cat food and glucose testing equipment.

In fact, she just now jumped down from her usual perch between me and my keyboard (hint: there's a pic!)

Also, if anyone is located in my state and needs more information on the vet in question, please message me. When we checked out today, we verified that the payment had been covered by the old vet -- so at least they have that going for them. Still, I wouldn't want anyone to use that vet without knowledge of what happened to me. Well, to Nadia!

What a relief she is recovering. And what a great picture of her on your desk. So happy here for the great news!:bighug:

Really great news. Bring on the Christmas cheer now that Nadia is back. Are you going back to the same vet? FurBabiesMama's right - if you start testing right away, you so the curves at home - get more accurate readings (avoid the high readings from stress at vet's) and save money

Wonderful news. She is recovering. Since you have a new vet open to home testing. Check with them about sending your spreadsheet (oh you will see how great the ss is) or the link to view it in real time, and they can stay up to date with the progress.

I know this is a bit early since new vet and all, but they don't want to see her until February? Do they expect her to stay on the .5 units till then? Or will you be managing dose when you start home testing with guidance from here?

Please post the name & location the vet! If any one cares to post on Facebook, Twitter... etc from that town it would get the message out! I did that though with a small town vet where I used to live & people reacted as if I were terrible. They loved that vet (so did I until they overdosed my cat on mobic) and stood up for him! You may find yourself in the very same situation! That vet also stabbed Baby to give her fluids with a huge tube. Lik they used on cows! That was after acting as if I shouldn’t ask for them to pay for fluids & care when they did the damage! He also was not licensed for pain meds & I was told she would get them for recovery! Poor Baby suffered with her first eye énucléation! I never left her side after getting home. Hope he .... karma!
One of the moderators has asked that this not be done but you can PM Nadia’s dad for the info :)

@mykmug We are all so thankful that Nadia is at home and safe. If we can help you all going forward on learning to test, when to give the shots, foods, etc....anything at all....we will be happy to do so. And if you join us (and we hope you will) and need help setting up a spreadsheet, please send me a private message (click on “Marje and Gracie” to the left and then “Start a Conversation”). The members on the PZ forum are all, as everyone, warm and welcoming.

What a wonderful Christmas gift to have your girl back home safe and sound.

This is awful & so scary! I'm so sorry you're going through this @mykmug . I hope the vet is going to be paying for your kitty's care at the ER. I would never use that clinic again. Do you have any friends who can pet sit your kitty when you go away again? Or consider hiring a professional pet sitter for two-three daily visits. It will cost you a bit more money but I think worth it for the peace of mind. I used to work for a mobile pet sitting company & it was a great experience, we would send updates & photos after each & every visit etc. Just be sure you do reference checks if you do hire a professional pet sitter. I would not board her with that clinic again. I hope she's going to be ok.

I am sorry to hear that this happened to your kitty and I also hope that they pay for your ER bills. I'm absolutely angry over hearing what this vet did to you and then they were rude to your wife, that's ridiculous. I second the pet sitting service as I used to work for one. I had clients that had pets with diabetes and it was always a pleasure to me to make them feel at ease by telling them about Peanut. I would show them pictures of him and even videos of me doing his insulin so that they would really feel better knowing that I knew what I was doing and I would take care of their pet. Sometimes my calls even required me to spend the night at their home and I would send update photos of their pets. It was a cool job and I enjoyed doing it. I also left my cats to the same pet sitting service when I myself went out of town on a 19 day trip about 7 years ago. It was before Peanut was diagnosed with diabetes so I didn't have to worry about that but the sitter still came by to feed the cats every day and she gave me updates so I felt really comfortable with that and the cats didn't have to sit in a cage for and extended period of time.

There's something else I'm not getting. Moving a decimal point over on paper is one thing but holding it your hand is another. Just how big was the syringe they used? I'm not trying in any way to see the humor in this but a ten year old would scratch his head and think "This doesn't look right". There's always someone who finished at the very bottom of the class.
