AMPS 538

This may have been the wrong thing to do, but I increased to 0.5 and shot through her bounce, even though we saw green yesterday AM (95). My thinking was that she's not getting the good duration she was getting previously, and she's also hitting such high numbers that she's doing big dives that then lead to big bounces again. She's doing her democratic rainbow dance: hitting as many colours in the spectrum as she can in one cycle. I thought that I might try to stall those huge dives and even her out by a) the dose increase and b) MC+ food and then see where she ends up and whether she really earned this 0.25 reduction.

Was this a really bad idea? Girlie is proving to be a bit atypical in certain respects (e.g. her reaction to higher carb foods), but I'm not sure...flying by the seat of my pants through the haze of foggy flu brain here...

I'm also mindful of the fact that she's going to the vet's in 10 days, and I'd want to reduce anyway before she goes there.

However: I've come down with a monster flu, so unless I'm significantly better by the 18th, then I'll have to change my flight and see mom at Easter rather than Christmas. At least she won't be disappointed as it was a surprise visit for Christmas. :(

Hope all kitties surf safely and all beans stay healthy! :-)

I'm sorry you have the flu, Darrah. Hope it resolves in time you can go on holiday!

Rainbow slide again, Girlie? I thought we were past this.

You know her best and you gave it 6 cycles, good luck with the increase and I hope she gets back to work on .5 :bighug:

We'll see if I'm getting to know her yet. She's just so hard to get down gradually once she's gone up to high blacks, and the Australian vet won't give me the Novolin-R, so I'm a bit stuck...

Yeah, I hope I get over this flu, too, before I have to fly. At least mom won't be disappointed as she had no idea I was coming...

Do you mean less duration from Lev than she had from Lantus? I can tell you that's true for Teasel. It still acts more like an in and out insulin than a depot insulin for him. About the only thing "Lev-like" I see is a relatively late onset +4-ish.

One month in, she's gotten better duration from Levemir than she ever got from Lantus, at least, but nothing like the 12+ hours some people have gotten. Still, she's not doing the dramatic dives at +2 that then resulted in horrific bounces into really high black numbers. She seems much steadier on Levemir, and much more inclined to stick with blues and greens. And she seems to recover from bounces more quickly, possibly because they're not as dramatic as before.

The odd thing about her, though, is that it takes MC foods to keep her in those nice numbers. I'm hoping that we can get her to a place where her AMPS numbers are lower so that she can be even steadier through the day. Fingers crossed!

The later onset works better for me now that I'm back at work; I can easily slip out and be home by her +4 and gauge what food she needs then. I can also be pretty certain about that 4 hours with little to nothing happening after her shot, which gives me a little leeway for real life stuff.

She also seems happier and better on Levemir overall. If nothing else, the fact that she seems happier and is in better numbers for most of the day - even with MC food - makes me happy for her. We'll see how she goes in this second month, though. I see that you've been on Levemir for about three months or so now. Lovely blue cycle for you today!

Hope you feel better soon and get to visit your mom for the holidays!:bighug:
Girlie ... please slide down SLOWLY ... no fancy dives allowed.
She didn't listen to you, but she seems to hold steadier on Levemir than she did on Lantus, at least, when she does dive down. What a cat is all I can say!

Hope you feel better Darrah, Girlie does like to show you every color. Hard kitty to figure out
Yeah, she is an interesting one. Hey - the SEB is great. We're liking it! I don't know if it's helping with her constipation, but it seems to be helping with her tummy, so hurray for that! The only challenge is getting it into her several hours after and before her other oral meds. Still, we're working on that and it's going okay so far.

Surf safe for your bean Girlie :cat:

Darrah, hope you feel better soon. The flu sucks :bighug:
A flu in summer when it's stinking hot is decidedly unpleasant. I really think the flu should only come on cold days when it's snowing or raining and you can just lie in bed snuggled under the covers - not sweating like a mad thing! :p

Sorry you're sick... hope you feel better soon! :bighug: Good luck with the increase. Come on Girlie. show us some steady blues. :cat:
She heard you - and she threw in some greens as well... :D

I'm glad she's doing better on Lev. Teasel's bounces are also less dramatic and clear faster and he does have the odd nice flat cycle. I agree that the later onset can be an advantage. The main thing is that he's a happier cat on Lev and that's so very important.
