Bounce question:
I assume that yesterday was a bounce (and slide down) from the 10/20 "50" at PM +4 but was the higher number this morning still part of that bounce? Do they still have normal Lantus cycle during/clearing a bounce (high PS, Nadir and then rise at PS #)? Gizmo hasn't really done this (or at least I have never been able to "see" him breaking a bounce before). It was kinda interesting yesterday that he continued to drop even after his normal nadir.

10/20
AMPS=182, +2=174
PMPS=182, +2=111, +3.5=57, +4=50, +4.5=71, +5.5=69
10/21
AMPS=169, +2=181, +4=153, +6=135, +7=123, +9=138, +11=179
PMPS=158, +2=142, +3.5=145, +4.5=132

Food question:
I got some new food I would like to try - how important is it to not change food (same carb count) while these numbers get back to normal? I need to make up a new batch of food (5 cycles) and am probably going to go with his regular food but thought I would ask. I know that Judy (Boomer) was changing food through out getting Boomer back regulated so I don't think it is a big deal but I don't want to add another factor.

Hopefully this +4 (109) indicates he is ready to get back to business :D. Why would he all of a sudden start bouncing again (at least this severely)? My gut says it is the inconsistent dosage over the past 5 days (or maybe he went lower last night after the +4.5 test?). My plan is to hold this dose for the week unless he gets stupid and goes pink or earns a reduction (highly doubtful).

He is feeling good. Loving, hungry, purry, nice poo deposit this AM and doesn't act like pancreatitis flare or anything else is bothering him.

On the bean front - hubby got up and did TFS this morning but we both stayed up and watched the game last night. OMG - even though I slept in a bit, we are both dragging. Neither of us are used to staying up much past 9pm, let alone hubby who usually sleeps later than I do. Both of us have headaches but I think that is due to the weather front that blew through (still blowing). We have had over an 1" of rain in about an hour.

Go Astros!

Well I got nothin' for ya Lizzie on the bounce/food question. I myself am so leery of food changes not so much for numbers with Beenie but my civvie that has constipation issues. Any food changes have an impact on his stool. What I've never done and probably should've done is slowly introduce any new foods. Even a different FF "flavor".
I think holding the dose as long as you can makes a difference. That has been my biggest problem up until recently, inconsistent dosing. Its always reductions than we go back up shortly after so its tough to see what a normal cycle will be.

Gizmo feeling good is the best thing of all :)

Congrats on the win yesterday!!! I'm a little relieved because DH had told me if the Yank are in the World Series he wasn't going to a Halloween party I already bought a costume for next Saturday. So I'm secretly happy they lost so we can go to the party together...it was so much fun last year ;) This can't get back to DH...Shhhhhh:p

No idea about the food/bounce question, way above what I know. But Gizmo always stays under the renal threshold, so no harm done by just trying the new food. Let me know how he likes the Dave's. I am happy to see the yanks going home for good! Met fans are not upset when the other NY home team fails.

The food question is an ECID thing. Some cats are very sensitive to a change in food even if it's the same carb count. It may upset their tummy for a day or two and an upset tummy can cause a bump in numbers -- or not.

As far as a bounce, it may be a bounce. There can always be a chance of some random variation in numbers. These guys are masters at finding anything with carbs that's hit the floor or they can hoover up off of a dinner plate or something that may be in the sink. If this was a bounce, the recovery was excellent and it looks like Gizmo is back on track. If you look back to 1/31, you can see a bounce breaking. The break can be after several cycles. Gizmo's numbers have largely been flat so there's not much bouncing going on.

Congrats on the win...Houston deserves it especially with the ridiculous showing from the Yankees :banghead:

Dose changes can cause wonky numbers and looks like he's headed in the right direction. I don't think he went lower but he's had some decent size drops in a short period of time. Hopefully he'll level out and stop being a cat.

It's fine to change foods. Just make a note and give it more then a few cycles. As long is the food is still LC it may or may not make any difference.

I didn't even think about that! Thanks. I will hold off till next weekend so if it does cause issues I will be home to switch out food. It would be added to his "mixture" so it would be diluted with a "normal" food.

I think that it is due to the dose changes I have made over the past few days. Thanks. I hope he doesn't go up too much and will see green tonight.

Glad Gizmo is feeling well - that's always the most important thing! He's looking good!

I'm not sure about the bounce issue as Darwin was SUPER bouncy! It did make a good difference when he finally gave me some green PS, and I was able to shoot those. :D

I treasure green PS #'s. He doesn't give them to me often and when he does it has been during the work week and that poses issues in and of itself. :mad::D

I am coming up to some lengthy time off (use-it or lose-it) so I am hopeful that I can play around with the food and maybe get him on a bit higher does with MC mid-cycle to keep him safe and yet keep his all around numbers lower. A weekend just isn't enough time to do that.

One thing you should be careful doing is making dose changes and food changes at the same time. It can be confusing because you won't know what caused his BG to be different if it changes. Nice slide today.

Congrats to the Astros.

Thanks Carla. I did decide to wait on the food. It will work out perfect for next weekend as long as his numbers even out. I guess i am just anxious to try it to see if he like it. :rolleyes:

Solidly blue today: very nice, Gizmo after the yellow PS... :)

I'm curious about what you said re: food mixture, and that you mix up batches of food for 5 cycles: do you freeze it or create portions for the week? :rolleyes:

Gizmo gets pancreaplus in his food. It is for his pancreatitis and is a digestive enzyme. It has to be mixed in his food and sit for at least 20 min or it can cause mouth ulcers. I don't have the time to wait the 20 min with my current schedule.

The 5-cycles just happens to work out using the cans of cat food. I mix it all together adding the enzymes and then portion it out by cycle. I use a digital scale for the cycle and then divide the cycle into 4 portions (eye ball it) for his feeder.

I mix
2ea 6oz Fowl Ball
1ea 3.2oz Fowl Ball
2ea 5.5oz of another food, tight now it is 2 different Soulistic foods.

It works out to be appx 145 grams per cycle (almost 5.25oz)

I just keep it in the refrigerator.

How u do all this and work too is amazing to me , Lizzie . Yes, that was one tremendous game last night ! So excited for the city if Houston :bighug::)
