Gel Caps

When I run out, I might next order from Capsule Depot. I'm debating the bacon flavoured ones. My first set of #4 gel caps I got from a compounding pharmacy. The price was pretty cheap. I also got some #5 gel caps from the specialty vet. The compounding pharmacy did not sell the smaller caps but the vet could get them from their vet supplier Torpac.

Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions! Finland is funny in a way that I have asked from all pharmacies close to me and not one has them. I'm going to go through all the sites you suggested. :bighug::bighug::bighug: Hopefully someone will deliver to my country.

Hi everyone, I have a question about the size of the capsules that are best for cats. One of you said 4, or 5? Which is the best one? Thank you again. I'm looking at Capsule Depot, but they don't mention about international shipping costs.

It depends on size of cat and how often you are giving it
Rico is 12 pounds
When he had a flare up he got size 5 about 5/6 times a day
If maintenance 1 size 5 a day.
You have to kind of see how they respond but always best to start low.
If kitty is responding I personally would do the same amount just often.
The florastor capsules are not as filled as most
You only get about 3 size 5 caps out of one standard florastor.

I use size 4 and 5 primarily. Neko has a narrowed pharynx due to her acromegaly, so larger caps like a #3 might get stuck. But I can still get her Vetmedin powder, a 1/4 Plavix, some vitamin B powder and her budesonide in a #4. If I don't add the Vetmedin (give it with liquid instead), I can fit all the rest of the meds in a size 5. The smaller the capsule, the easier for me to get down her. Depending how much practice you have with pilling, you might want to consider getting a pill gun (piller or pill shooter) too.

I have all three sizes, too, and I use the #4s the most. Harvey won't eat his food if I put supplements in it, so I put his Cosequin and L-Lysine into gelcaps and pill him. The Cosequin capsule fills two #4 gelcaps. The L-Lysine capsule (500 mg) fills 4. I do use the #3s when I am giving a couple of larger pills, or want to give 3 at once. I've never had an issue with the kitties swallowing them.

Wow that's a lot of replies, thank you so much everyone! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I honestly thought that I only need one size. Well I would be happy to find even that without waiting for weeks for the postman to deliver it like when I order syringes. I gave up yesterday trying to choose between brands and sizes, hopefully today I finally manage to order something. ;)

I was looking for capsules recently but the sizes were really confusing and I couldn't find any simplified information. My cat is really fussy and he only likes small food but this table at capsulefillers.com/size-chart lists a lot of information and I ended up buying size 4 and 5 capsules of amazon to try and he had no problems eating size 5.

I use s boullardi and I just open the capsule and mix into some turkey baby food. My other cat licks it right off the spoon. Seems easier than putting powder into smaller gel caps maybe?

I've used capsuline in the past - chicken flavor. The capsules are cheap - I have all three sizes and depends on the meds, and how many pills (or bits of pills) I can cram in one - seems like I use size #4 the most
