Hi Guys,

Fustrating days continue with Compound Pharmacy. So I need help from fellow members who are using or ordered cabergoline.
@Bronx's dad @saltycat @Adrian and Chino

The first two months compound pharmacy gave dose in pre-filled syringes. Then they asked if ok to give in bottle, since I am comfortable measuring since I was measuring insulin. No biggy was happy to do so. Well had problem with bottle see above link to previous post. Bottle was empty, pharmacist said since such a small amount sticks to sides of bottle and drys out, can't give me more than a month even though prescription is two month amount as compounded med are only good for one month (@saltycat can you check the expiry on your bottle please, not sure I believe them as my expiry said 6 months, they said was default and forgot to update).

So they ran another batch, put it in large syringe, to get the dose out I need there is an attachment and I need to extract the amount from the large syringe to a smaller one. While doing this of course you lose some of the med, as it leaks out, hands were covered. See picture below

I told pharmacist (not the one I was originally dealing with), that I didn't understand as the others I knew on this site were able to get in bottle with no issues. He said that was not possible, however if I gave him the name of their compound pharmacy he would be happy to follow-up and see how they are compounding it.

What I would need if possible, is a picture of the med / bottle, and name and coordinate of your compound pharmacy please. PM me with the info :)

Needless to say I am at my witts end. Thanks

Sorry for the ongoing battles with the compounders Nat. :bighug: Might be best to get people to PM you and remove your email addy from the post.

Any chance the compounder can make the amount more dilute, ie. larger dose required but it's larger volume so doesn't dry out? I would also talk to your vet to see if they can help get this sorted out.

My vet isn't there anymore, and since I found it myself, on my own. I discussed the same option with the pharmacist and he said no. Truth be told he didn't seem to care, think that is why he asked that I get name of the compound pharmacy others are using. He said they often help each other out, so they do speak to other compound pharmacies.

I no longer have the bottle but am almost positive the pharmacy my IM vet at Blue Pearl in Paramus NJ used was Wedgewood Pharmacy http://www.wedgewoodpharmacy.com/compounding-pharmacy/ in south Jersey. It came in a small bottle with a rubber stopper and I had to hold it upside down and stick a needle-less syringe into the rubber and pull the correct amount.

edit: link works now

Sorry Nat!! :bighug:
I thought @Bronx's dad mentioned, or maybe someone else, there is a FB Acro group. Maybe posting there too might help get you more info on compounding pharmacies others have used for the carbergoline in bottle form.

Sounds like the bottle they gave me that was empty and Pharmacist said it's not possible

Here's a picture of the vial and syringe:

The "discard after" date is 30 days from the day they prepared it. The number on the bottle is the pharmacy's number (Carrollwood Compounding Center).

Mine came from Diamondback and expired 6 months after its compounding date. My bottle sounds like Pauls, with a screw on cap and a built in plastic insert you stuck the syringe into.

Not sure on the large syringe size opening, but maybe you could use some fish tank airline hose to connect the 2 syringes to reduce spillage?
