On an AT and this early in the cycle, might as well bring out the big guns. Just a drop mind you, and test again in 20.

PS, I am on a ferry so might not be too responsive the next little while.

That's okay - and thanks for responding so quickly, Wendy. I'll give her 0.25 of glucose syrup and test in 20. She's hungry: should I give HC food or MC food as well?

Ok, now 88. Phew! I thought we were going for another increase, but does this mean she gets an automatic reduction to 0.5?

The FF Savoury Salmon is 1 carb; I really wonder if she doesn't do better and avoid dives like this if she's on a higher LC food, ca 5 and above. Could that be possible, I wonder?

Ok, now 88. Phew!
88 is so much better! :) I would take another test in 30 min to check if she stays above 68 or best at her current level. The glucose syrup effect is very short lived - but the HC should help for longer.

I'd ask Wendy about the dose.

Technically the reduction was earned per protocol but with the black numbers not so long ago maybe you'll need to keep the current dose. IDK.

Thanks, Tanya. I was thinking we'd need to go up a little bit again eventually, so I'll see what Wendy says. At least the tiny amount of glucose syrup and some HC food seems to have brought her up. She's now 95, and still looking for food (amazing for her!). I don't want to give her any more HC food, though, I don't think...

No to the HC at this nice 95 level. Maybe 2 tsp LC if she's hungry?
The syrup or gravy or honey kick in quickly and then leaves. Because it is early in the cycle it is reasonable to expect her to lower until her nadir time. The LC will keep her "surfing" without sending up too high.

;)Haven't you heard? When you talk on the Forum about increasing it is very often that cat drops to prevent it. Really.

ETA: just very little of LC so she still has an appetite later on if you need her to eat again.

Really? Well, Girlie must have read my mind again, then, re: the increase. Good girl! We want you steady, though, not dropping to low, low greens yet.

I would give Girlie the reduction. She was having many blues the last couple cycles. She's not bouncing as much as before. :)

However, Wendy has the final say. ;)
Do you think food could play any role here? She was having LC but higher LC (above 5) when she was doing so nicely in the blues. I've noticed before (but will have to do a thorough check) that the really LC or no carb foods tend to see her do steeper drops. Could that be possible, or is this just my wacky imagination? I know that even if a food is supposedly LC4 that's not set in stone for every can and the amounts could really vary a lot.

Another favorite drop time is when a bean has to go out for something expensive/well planned ahead like a concert or a play or a sport match.:joyful:
Oh yeah, she's played that card many, many times so far. Who knows what she's going to do when I have to be back at work full time and can't monitor her like I can now. I've already given her the thought vibes that she only has a few weeks left for tight TR, so she needs to get a move on. Either than, or my day will start at 4 am so I can get up to a +3 or +4!

If I remember right, Wendy said to try feeding higher carb LC to help flatten Girlie's cycles and not have her dive so much. It does seem to help a lot.

Of course I'm out of higher LC food (was my plan to go buy some today - HAH! Girlie took care of that one). I did mix some MC 13 with her LC 1 food and gave her some of that a little bit ago. I'm bad with anything relating to numbers, but wouldn't MC 13 + LC 1 = LC 7 if I mixed equal amounts? That we can easily do...

That works! :)

I don't think the auto feeders will work for Girlie, though, because she's already a grazer who automatically goes looking for a little more food every 1 or 2 hours and just eats a little bit. Also, there's no way for me to know whether she needs some MC or higher LC food, so I couldn't do that in advance, could I? I just don't see how anyone can do TR and work a full-time job; Girlie wouldn't have been in a good place this morning if I'd gone to work for the day...LC just doesn't seem to bump her up from deep dives enough. Oh Girlie, why care you being so entertaining? :-)

That works! :)
I love your OTJ video. I just looked at Rex's SS. Did you just take time off work when you were doing so much testing? Also curious re: the honey. I find it easy to give Girlie the Glucose syrup as she's so used to getting liquids. I tried honey, but she got one drop on her tongue and walked away from her food and gave me a very dirty look. I don't want to mix anything in her food as she's already picky enough. Can you give honey via a syringe, I wonder?

We're going through another restructure at work, so in a few weeks it's going to be full on as I have to apply for jobs and perhaps relocate, so they won't look kindly on me taking time off for a diabetic cat. Oh, the joys of real life! Girlie, if you're going to do it, do it soon! :nailbiting:

Yes, on the reduction, and yes, some cats do better on slightly higher carb LC food.

As for working full time and doing TR, most people try to arrange life so they are home for a +2 before they head out the door. Depends on your work schedule if this is possible. Girlie has been fairly good at telling you early if she is going to drop. If +2 looks like a drop, then you leave higher carb food out for her to munch on.

Thanks, Wendy. So down to 0.5 again for her PM shot. Good Girlie! I'll stick with the mc/lc combo until I can get to the store or get more food delivered. When I have to be back at work full-time, I'll just move her shot time up so I can at least get a +3 in. Until I have to relocate, I'm close enough to be able to dash home for an "early lunch." :-)

To answer your question about me taking time off from work, yes I did. The first time I shot a green AMPS, I already planned to stay home because we had a nasty snowstorm that day. A couple times I left work early with bad headaches and found Rex going low. My schedule is Monday through Thursday so that really helped having 3 day weekends. I got lucky with Rex finding a good dose then racing down the ladder.

As for honey, Rex preferred if it was mixed with food, but he loves food so he was happy with whatever he got.

Thanks for that info. No snowstorms in Australia, unfortunately, but Girlie seems to be determinedly green today, so maybe there's hope for her yet. :-)
Great bunch of cats you have! All really gorgeous...

Yes, she is having beautiful numbers now and that's exactly what you want. :D

Bye bye greens...hello reds...sigh...:banghead:

I reduced her dose to 0.5 this evening. Looks like she's back on that trampoline again. I had a talk with her, but the only thing she wants is for me to go to sleep so she can cuddle...sigh...

Still, I have to be at work almost all day tomorrow and during her usual diving times the day after, so better high than too low, I guess. Once Friday comes I can spend 24 hours by her side with no interruptions for four or five days in a row. While I'm out I'll get some more pumpkin and food for her and - I think - perhaps some chocolate for me... :-) Fingers crossed she doesn't bounce too high or too long!

I accidentally stuck myself with one of her lancets (before I used it on her, so it was clean). Wow, those things hurt! Then again, I literally jammed it into my hand, and Girlie sleeps through her tests, so clearly I'm better at doing it to her than I am to myself!

I'm not surprised she is bouncing after dropping to 61 this morning. She's had some nice cycles the past 4 days.
You're doing a good job getting her into better numbers.:)

She'll come back down. Like you said better to keep her safe. I think chocolate for you is a good idea. ;) I got myself with the lancet once also. It was when I was stressed out from his vet visit and I wasn't thinking clearly or focusing on what I was doing. Ouch!

I've already threatened her with a dose increase - we'll see if that works! :D I was trying to get off chocolate, but I might treat myself tomorrow...

I got some Neosporin via ebay, and I was surprised that there wasn't any seal on the outside of the pack or a little foil seal or something on the tube that I had to remove before I used it. I'm so used to those sorts of tamper-proof seals here in Australia, but I can't remember if those are common practice in the U.S. I've used the new Neosporin on me and it seems fine, but I kept meaning to ask whether you usually find some sort of tamper-proof seal on it in the U.S.

Neosporin comes in a box without any outside seal. There is no foil seal on the the actual medicine tube.

I can't remember if the box is glued shut or just closed. I would think it should be glued, but just can't remember for sure.

Thanks for that. I'll start using it on her, then. The old one expired a month ago, so it'll be good to use a new powered up one on her little ears. Thanks so much! :-)

I would have thought there'd be some sort of seal, but I can't remember. I got some Neosporin in the U.S. last year, but that was way too long ago for me to remember now...still, I haven't cacked it yet since I used it on myself, so I'm sure it's fine!

Your day has been way too "entertaining"! I hope Girlie settles down for you and stays safe tomorrow. :bighug:
I would love to see a picture of Girlie in the bib you mentioned earlier, if you have any. :)
