Just curious if M b-12 is appropriate/effective for a FD kitty with arthritis. Initial weakness in hindquarters but ok now. Still arthritic and I can hear her joints creaking! She is taking Dasquin at present.

Unfortunately, not so much. Methyl B-12 is more beneficial for neurological issues not cartilage. How long as she been on Dasuquin?

about 6 mos. tried 2 capsules little before weight loss started. Dropped to one and she started eating better.

Adequan is another option that some have used for arthritic diabetic kitties. @Phoebes uses it, I believe.
Yes Phoebe has the creaking, snapping, and popping. We are on the 15th shot of adequan. We have noticed a little difference. I am upping her dose because it was .23 for a 12 lb cat she is now almost 13.8. It's on the exspensive side but have noticed a difference. There is only adequan for horse and canine. I got the canine. Someone else who has used it with Great results is @jayla-n-Drevon . I am hoping she can get even more relief.
Good luck with your furbaby. We also do bupe and gabapentin for pain and inflammation.

Shenandoah has been on Adequan since last fall. It has been great for her. She is still stiff, but she gets around more and plays more. She seems to especially have one high point about 2 days after each injection when she thinks she's a kitten again :joyful:

It's expensive, but after you get through the initial ramping up, it drops down to one injection per month, so a bottle lasts for quite a while.

It's certainly not the only option available for arthritis, but my feline-only vet has seen a lot of success with it.

".23" in what inits? ml?
One does not what to get the equine Adequen since it does NOT contain a preservative like the canine Adequen does. The un-preserved equine is made to use the vial one only, not for repeated dosing like weekly. Without a preservative bacteria can grow in a punctured vial

Shenandoah's is dosed as 23 units, and given in a U-100 insulin syringe.

(So same thing, @Phoebes 0.23 mL is the same as our 23 U)

My boys are seniors almost 19 and 20 so we give it every 4-7 days and it has greatly improved the quality of their life.
One key thing is to start before it is bad as it slows the progression of arthritis as well.
My vet who does see cats-dogs and horses prefers to use the equine on horses and anything that will go thru it fairly quick (a large dog)
I have used both equine and canine with no issues or infections. I go thru a bottle pretty quick with 2 (Rico gets .03ml and Dre .04ml) and with the frequency --if 1x a month I would go with canine.

I started my boy on "Golden Paste" (turmeric based) about a month ago and noticed he is walking a little better already. Gabapentin just made him tired and I tried "Joint-Purrfection" (glucosamine based) but that caused dandruff for some reason. Was also using Canna-Companion (cannabis based) but that was pretty expensive. However, I have heard many kitties won't eat golden paste.

Don't we continuly puncture our insulin vials and pens?
Yes, which is why insulin has a preservative in it for the reasons Larry mentioned in post #9. If memory serves me well, the insulins commonly used for our cats contain the preservative Meta-cresol -aka- M-cresol... unless this is something that has changed recently.

Does one worry about the type of preservative used with insulins? Just remembering back and rabies shots...

The suspected problem with rabies vaccine causing cancer at the injection sit is due to an adjuvant used in rabies vaccine. An adjuvant enhances the body's immune response to an antigen. Insulin is not an antigen.
