Zobaline Making Neuropathy Worse??

What are the symptoms of your cat's neuropathy? Sometimes there are other things that can appear to be neuropathy, but are not. Mostly electrolyte imbalances mimic the symptoms of neuropathy, but also anemia, other b-vitamin deficiencies, arthritis, blood clots, seizures, etc.
 
Walking low to the ground, flat-footed. Completely sitting when going pee, and has stopped even getting into the box, just sits on pee-pads and goes. Doesn't want to move around much. Not sure how else to describe it. Going to the vet after work. So stressed. I don't mind him peeing on the pads at all, but he gets pee all over himself every time he goes.

How well regulated is he? What were his numbers the last few days?
 
Not well regulated. Been working on that with his vet for the past couple months. Did a curve at home this past Saturday. His morning pre-shot level was over 600 and he slowly decreased throughout the day, down to 317 before his evening shot. Started him on 2.5 units of Lantus this morning per his vet. She says she doesn't want me testing him in between curves because the stress could be bad for him. So. Frustrating.

Does your cat not like to be touched? I have a semi feral that I can't touch much.... Thankfully she's not the diabetic. For most cats testing at home isn't really a big deal.

Is not the zobaline that's causing the troubling then, it's that the cat is unregulated for a prolonged time. I suggest you write on the lantus boards to ask for help in getting him in better numbers. Read their protocols for determining dose.
 
For most cats, testing isn't really stressful once you have a pattern down, and your cat gets used to it. My cat actually likes being tested because I used to feed him treats, and he likes the cuddles, purrs the whole time. If it is just the neuropathy getting worse, I'm sure a few pokes daily is preferable to increased neuropathy.

It's good you are going to the vet. I would ask for blood work to rule out electrolyte imbalances, anemia and infections which could all be causes. I would also ask for an x-ray of the spine, as sometimes lower body weakness can be related to arthritic changes or injury.

You are getting good advice here. The neuropathy is from the unregulated diabetes. Also it just harms my ears to hear yet another vet to recommend against home testing. The main way I got Leo regulated was by daily testing prior to dosing. Then I adjusted his dose to drive the BG levels down.
