Good Morning!

Not happy to see a 177 this morning. I can give her the micro dose, what are we thinking? .25 unit? How often should I pull numbers today?

Ok, just gave her what I believe to be .25 units - my syringes only have the 1/2 unit marking lines so it's a total guess exactly how much I gave. I didn't feel like when I injected her that the plunger pushed forward at all. I sure hope she got SOMETHING in her.

Morning Nicole!
Yes I think .25 is a good starting point.
I find that determining the exact measurement is really difficult when microdosing. It's more important to figure out what you think is .25 then stick with it even though the dose may actually not be .25. If you have any doubts then use some coloured water and measure the dose in a syringe and then compare each dose to that syringe....that way you stay consistent.
I would get a few tests today....starting at +2 or maybe even +1

Here's a picture of some fine doses found in this sticky at the top of the forum:
LANTUS & LEVEMIR - SYRINGE & INSULIN INFO: HANDLING, DRAWING, & FINE DOSES

It's kind of hard to stay consistent with the fine doses as the zero lines are often not in the same place on the individual syringes. I think the colored water as an example syringe is a good idea as long as the colored water doesn't evaporate. I used calipers for fine dosing.

Why don't they make a skinnier syringe for microdoses? Also, I think it would be easier to judge amounts if the plunger was red or the lines were red to see a contrast. I should patent these ideas lol.
I know, right??? You should go for the patent and that will help you recover all the Sugar Dance and Acrocat expenses. You know where you can promote your red plunger syringes......;)

Sorry about the AMPS, we can all relate to how you are feeling.
Paws crossed the itsy bit of insulin works wonders for Aurora.
Did Aurora get a snack at +9 last night?

I think starting with a +2 is a good plan, and maybe a +6, (you may need to test more frequently in the early part of the cycle, if that +2 shows that she is dropping significantly, just in case she has a marked response to the insulin)

Ok so before I left the house I got a +1 and it was 177. I just got another when I got home at +3 and we are at 133 I wonder if maybe I really didn't get any insulin at all in the syringe. I filled to 1 unit and then pressed most back in.

It may take a day or two for her to respond; Lantus is a depot insulin so some of each shot will go to fill the depot. That being said, each cat is different and I wouldn't take any chances so I would continue to test periodically.
The tiny shots are difficult! And you're right; it hardly feels like the plunger is moving at all.

You probably got some in. Lantus is a gentle insulin and brings the numbers down slowly. The onset of it's effect is usually around +2.
Are you using a vial of insulin or the pens? I would not be pushing the insulin back in as it will contaminate the insulin, and if you use a pen they have a vacuum seal so you are putting pressure on that seal by adding the insulin back in again.

Some kitties have a remarkable reaction Right away and others take a couple cycles like Judy said.

FYI : it's not recommened to shot excess insulin from the syringe back into the vial or pen. The reason is there is a lubricant inside the syringes to help them glide better and that lubricant can contaminate the insulin. So, this time forward express the extra into the sky line the doctors do on TV. I did it too before I realized it wasn't a good thing to do.

As others have said, you may need to wait and see what happens as the depot fills.
Those micro doses are tricky.

Yes I did give her a snack before bed last night

Since she has gone up, if you can, I would try to catch a nap or go shopping or whatever you need to do.

Yeah, I'm going to leave her alone for the rest of the day unless you all think I need to get in another test yet. Doesn't seem like things are changing much today yet. I feel like I can see the .5 clearly on the syringe, maybe .5 is better so at least I know I'm getting that amount into her accurately? I'll do the PMBG around 545pm and see where we are at. If I have to give another micro dose, I'd like to stick to the 12 hours apart and give that at 615pm.

Personally I would continue with the .25 for a few days.

I'd stick to that .25 dose too. The rise at +5.5 may have been a liver response to the extra insulin it sensed...if you throw in too many variables, you'll not be able to narrow down anything. The dose doesn't have to be exactly .25 - just make them consistent.

I would try to give her +9 snacks....she has proven over the last few days that her pancreas is working at least a bit so a +9 snack will help to reduce her AMPS and PMPS levels. And you may need to experiment with the quantity of the food...sometimes a regular-size meal works; for other kitties a snack (maybe half of a regular meal) works.

Went out and ran some errands so there wasn't a late afternoon snack. Her PMPS was 146. I loaded a syringe with the .25 micro dose and pressed the plunger and there was a small drop so I re measured again and gave her that tonight. How many times do I need to check her levels tonight? Maybe a +2 at 815 and another at 930?

Nice. It would be good if you could get a nadir test tonight. Any chance you can?

here's something you can do to know that you did shoot something?

take an old syringe. insulin is best but I know you don't want to waste it....
so using water....load to 1 unit.
Hold the syringe needle pointing upward and using both hands, twist the plunger until one drop beads up and rolls down the needle.
Countinue doing this, and count the drops until nothing comes out.

Many of the syringes will have 10 -12drops but they aren't all the same so it's good to know how many drops are in your brand of syringe for 1 unit.

You are probably giving at least 2 drops....

Because of the syringes I had, when I got down to .25 u.....
I found that I had nothing coming out of the syringe at all..... and I actually had to add a drop so I knew she was getting something.....

It was literally 1 tiny drop when I tested it tonight.

+ 6 would be midnight. I have to be up early for work so that won't work. I can do this tomorrow. Didn't I kind of already do a nadir today already since I checked her at +5.5? Tomorrow do we increase to .5 unit or do we stay at this .25 for awhile?

You did do a nadir today, it's just with the depot, it went from empty to just starting to have some insulin in it, each dose adds a little to the depot and it builds.
I would keep this dose for a couple more days.

Okay! My mind is mush today

I'd get a before bed test because the+2 is tge sMe as the pmps s I think you will see some action. Then you can feed or leave food out or do both depending on the number.

I'm going to get another in 30 minutes then I'll feed her and off to bed. Aurora is now obsessed with the rad cat raw food, she begs for that over the canned.

126 @ 3.5
Aurora yacked a hairball literally before I checked her, not sure if brewing that hairball had any relevance to her slightly higher numbers today or not. I did reading and gave some rad cat raw as a bedtime snack. There is canned food out as well incase they are hungry during the night.
Momma is exhausted, headed to bed! Nite all!
Safe surfing to everyone!
