Patience... patience... patience...
DH was ready to shoot 10 units. I had to explain to him the protocol and that we need to give him time to adjust to the dose. He knows not to change dose without confirmation. He's worried about the increase in his numbers and not responding to the dose. I am too but have been trying my best to not worry.
Hope to see some action this morning.

I don't understand why the consistent high numbers. Is there another health issue??? I am not sure what the carbs are in the food he's getting but with my kitty Fancy Feast Classic which is a low carb made his numbers be higher. I was told with high doses you should be on Levemir. I was told high doses of Lantus stings.
INCREASING THE DOSE:
  • Hold the dose for 3 - 5 days (6 - 10 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are less than 200 before increasing the dose by 0.25 unit.
    • if your cat is new to numbers under 200, it is recommended to hold the dose for at least 8-10 cycles before increasing.
    • when your cat starts to see nadirs under 100, hold the dose for at least 10 cycles before increasing.
  • After 3 days (6 consecutive cycles)... if nadirs are greater than 200, but less than 300 increase the dose by 0.25 unit.
  • After 3 days (6 consecutive cycles)... if nadirs are greater than 300 increase the dose by 0.5 unit

  • @Doodles & Karen , @Wendy&Neko, @Bobbie And Bubba I am puzzled at poor Chucks SS please can you take a look and help?

The only difference is the limp but that just started today. He's on the same food he's been on for months. I've added FF classics pate for his +7 snack but it's the lowest carb ones and he only get half an ounce of it. He's a bouncy kitty and was a mess on ProZinc. I almost expected some sort of shenanigans from him once he got going on Lantus but I expected to see lower numbers or at least somewhat of a "curve" in his BG readings each cycle.
He hasn't been tested for IAA or Acro yet... He doesn't seem to mind the shot at all. Doesn't even notice it when I give it to him.
My patience is wearing thin and I'm trying my best to go with the flow and follow the TR protocol. I've considered asking the vet about adding R insulin. Even if it's just enough to get him under 300 for his PS readings or to help deal with his post meal spike.

Pain or inflammation can raise the BGs. I would test for the high dose conditions. Knowing what you are dealing with cam impact dosing.

I won't be able to afford the tests until probably June or July. Had emergency repairs needed on my car that drained my savings. Kitty's vet bill didn't help that either. DH has asked for OT at work to help build our savings back up.
I'm physically drained, discouraged, and stressed. I try not to stress around Chuck. I don't need him to pick up my stress and make his numbers worse.
Once the tests are done, how does that change the way we treat him? If he's positive for one or both? Does it just give the explanation of the big dose or make it a quicker increase?

I understand your frustration. The tests will mostly tell you why you're having trouble regulating Chuck, but also help you develop a better dosing plan, such as adding R, what to watch for if IAA were to break, etc. Knowing gave me some peace of mind that his high numbers weren't because I was doing something wrong. The tests themselves aren't real expensive, it's the shipping (at least in my case). Maybe ask your vet for an estimate.

I was told with high doses you should be on Levemir. I was told high doses of Lantus stings
Lantus does not sting every cat. Some do fine with high doses of Lantus. For my Doodles he clearly bothered him but others are using Lantus at over 30u etc. without an issue.

He doesn't seem to mind the shot at all. Doesn't even notice it when I give it to him
That's a good thing!

He hasn't been tested for IAA or Acro yet
When you can it's worth getting the tests done. I believe it was roughly $250 for both tests. My Doodles was IAA only, no Acro. We did need R at times but under careful supervision from the group members here. It's not something to jump into without close guidance in the beginning.

Pm cycle seeing some movement... Not ideal but at least he's moving a bit. I changed his snacks to half ounce baked chicken. DH thought those might be an issue keeping him high. I didn't think so but figured we could try.

With having nadirs at 300+ are we still increasing by .5 units or can we do 1 unit? Is it too risky with higher dose kitties? He's due for an increase on PM cycle today (4/23)
