Pita's Dosing Party

Hey guys! Did I say happy Friday already?! Wooo! However, I messed up the feeder and it didn't open today, so I had some angry boys! I also felt bad because as I was testing, Pita could not gobble up treats fast enough. So yeah. Lesson learned to quadruple check that I unlocked the feeder. On that note, his PMPS was 263. I know it was discussed last night about trying out 1 or 1.2 u at nights to try to quell the bouncing. I was gonna do 1.2 tonight since it is a bit higher. Thoughts? Thanks all!

+3 was 93. Better than last night as far as timing/drop goes. Should I give him any food or is he probably okay if I just test at +5 or +6 without? I think I'm going to try 1u both doses tomorrow and see what happens.

Goodness that's quite a drop on a 1.2 dose. I'm with Yong that a snack would be in order. Although if you can manage it, waking up for the +5 or +6 test might also be a good idea. More for the data than out of any thought of danger though (as long as you give Pita some food to self-steer tonight).

Also, I have a feeling you're right about the 1u doses for tomorrow. At least if he's still showing you a blue PS.

If it were me, I would probably give a big tablespoon of LC for a snack to help the drop slow. :)

Well, I thank you both, but I passed out before reading any of this and did neither recommendation! AMPS was 165 so I'm doing 1 u. Also checked the feeder and it is unlocked for later! I'll be doing a +2 but then I'll be out for quite a few hours. Will do a +7 or so when I'm home. When I check him before bed tonight, if there is a steep drop as the last two nights, I'll make it habit to give a little snack before bed. I'll be home all day tomorrow so I'll try to do a bunch of tests/mini curve!?

+2.5 was 104, +6 was 154. Wondering if 1.2 would have been better. But that's ok! I'll see what PMPS brings and probably stick with the 1u for tonight also. Could he still be bouncing a bit?

It's so hard to say right now. He could still be bouncing. This would be cycle 4 and they typically last 3-6 cycles. Pita hasn't been particularly bouncy, so I would bet the bounce has cleared already. It's also possible that there was a high green around +4 or +5, but I agree that 1.2 would have probably been fine today. This is why going down the scale is as tricky (if not more so) than going up the scale. At least going up there are some tried-and-mostly-true "rules". Going down it's kind of a guessing game.

Ugh it's very tricky! I'll get there...

Your daytime cycle is the 13 hour one, right?

I think 1.2 tonight is probably fine, but I'm wondering if you should try 1.2 during the day and 1.0 at night. That might give you a better night's sleep, slightly safer AMPS, and get back to greens during the day. Or not. It's just kind of a guess right now about what will work.

Yes 13 is the day cycle. Yeah I'm gonna try that tomorrow. Lots of fun back and forth!

At least we're in this boat together right now! I'm kind of dreading the PMPS since I know it will be a guessing game to figure out what to do with whatever number he shows me. I just keep reminding myself that this is good chaos...

I like the sound of good chaos! Its been so up and down I don't even know how to feel!

Lol...sounds like a perfect morning! And also, maybe Pita isn't quite ready to go down to 1u yet. It's a dance, and only the kitties can hear the music!

It was very nice! Yeah I know I'll be gone tomorrow but I may try 1.2 tonight and 1.4 tomorrow am. See how a couple days at those doses go.

AMPS was 227, gave 1.4u. PMPS was just 206 and I'm going to give 1.2u. I know these pre-shot numbers are fine (good even?) but I'm feeling a bit meh! I can't tell if I need to give slightly higher doses again, or if he's bouncing or if I just need to chill the frick out. I'll do a +2 or +3 tonight. Just needed to express my blah-ness. Maybe it's the Monday blues (or lack thereof!)

:bighug: I think they're very nice PS numbers. His body may still be making minor adjustments with the 13/11 schedule :). Hang in there, Caitlin! :bighug:

It's tough sometimes, no matter what. Those are really lovely numbers though...the low yellows means he probably spends time in healing blues and maybe greens during the cycle, which is good!

Thanks Rachel! You guys are great and I appreciate the positive reminders

Sorry his numbers are a little higher again. They are still good numbers, even if they aren't the numbers you're wanting. Hang in there!

This am was rough. I woke up a tad bit late/wasn't assaulted for food and then couldn't get blood from either ear. I just gave 1.2 based on his numbers lately. He's starting to do the perk his head up and back away bit again. We're actually at the 2 month mark and and the last time I had this issue was about a month ago. It's like every month he'll go through a phase of not cooperating and then somehow stop. So, I think between my new job and being a bit more tired right now, he and I may be in for a small battle again. I'm trying to be calm and positive but I'm not sure how else to test him. I'm hoping it was just this one time and he/we will relax and be able to do this.

Maybe a version of my method would help:
  1. sit on floor with kitty facing outward between your legs
  2. raise your knees and cross your lower legs in front of him to make "walls" around him (not tight)
  3. roll a small hand towel, place it under his chin and overlap the ends at the back of his neck - makes it harder to do the "jerk head forward" thing.

I'll have to try, thanks Kris! It's funny because the second he hears the drawer open he sits in his spot and starts purring! Even if he gets away for a moment, he walks back over. It's just him being defiant and not letting me hold his ears again.

Kris, that towel idea is brilliant!

Caitlin, do you think it's because he's hungry? A couple of times Sam has been impossible just because he really wants his food. So I've put the plate in front of him and let him start chowing down, and done the test while he's eating.

I'm not sure Djamila! I'm inclined to say no. Yesterday he and brother started knocking stuff over, meowing in my face, general rowdiness to wake me up and feed them. This morning they both slept til I got up. He definitely has no problem telling me when he's hungry, but it's always a possibility! Plus, he gets a lot of treats as we test, so he still got a good amount this am. I know I hold his ear a bit differently (maybe firmer) when I'm about to poke, so he probably knows when I'm about to try, but I don't know how else to do it!

He has a reputation to keep up . Next he will poke his own ear! Maury did this last night haha. Flicked his head at the wrong time :cat:. Luckily the lancet was in the right area. One of those things I could not have done if I was trying :)

Hahaha that's awesome and I'm glad it worked out ok! Ugh, I'd like to think he's just telling me to get it over with and maybe I'm taking too long. o_O His reputation is well intact!

All right! Does he have any special treats he absolutely loves that you could use for test time? You could reserve those only for tests to help make him look forward to it maybe...
