Good morning!
AMPS 117 shooting .75F.

Boomer ate all of his +3, left a bit of his +6 and a bit of his +9.

Today was Allen's first Fosomax so the poor little guy hasn't eaten for 12 hours and now has to wait another 2 hours before we can feed him. :( Yesterday I spent a very frustrating 45 minutes at two pet food stores looking for food for him. I went in with 5 options and neither store had any of them so with iPhone in hand and Dr Lisa's updated list on it, I went down the aisle trying to find a food that was low phosphorous, lower in carbs, med/high protein. Most of the foods on the list are not available in Canada; in exchange we have a bunch that are not on the list (of course). I ended up with 2 types of Wellness Core, Chicken, Turkey & Chicken Liver, (phosp 215, protein 32, carbs 8, fat 60) and Turkey and Duck, (265 phosp 265, protein 38, carbs 5 and fat 57). Note phosp is mg/100kcals and the rest are % of calories. The fat % seems awfully high to me.....what does everyone else think? And I know the phosp in the one kind is too high but it's a lot lower than the fancy feasts he's eating now and my choices were very limited. On the upside, I may be able to give Boomer these foods too.

It's very sunny here today although quite cold right now but temperature is supposed to be above freezing this afternoon. Might go for a drive somewhere later if Boomer gives us permission.

A better start for Boomer today. Head to the lagoon buddy :D:D Hope Allen likes the new food and glad Boomer can it too. Hope you have a nice drive and find some wild life to take pictures of. Haven't see a Judy picture in quite some time ;)

I swear I literally get anxiety attacks when I start thinking about cat food anymore....it is so stressful, frustrating, aggravating, etc, etc, etc.

As for the increase, it's really up to you...his numbers are great, but I do think he'd be OK - and possibly more green - if you gave him more juice.

Have a great day, Judy!

Double check with Marje on this but I think if you add cooked egg white to the foods that are higher in phos, you'll be adding to the protein and by adding more volume to the food, you'll be decreasing the amount of phos. It may be a way to offset some of the problem you're running into.

I was literally in tears when I left the first pet store; I was super frustrated! Then in the second store my frustration turned to determination:rolleyes:
I just gave Allen a tsp of the Wellness core chicken, turkey & chicken liver in with his fancy feast and he seemed to like it. Of course, he hasn't eaten in 14 hours so he may have eaten just about anything! DH keeps asking "have you put his dry food down yet". He doesn't seem to understand that it's really not good for Allen (he only upside is that Allen does drink lots of water).
Oh and I gave Boomer just a taste of the Wellness and he seemed to like it too and came looking for more. 8% carb is higher than what I would normally give Boomer though so it may get mixed in with a really low carb food

That is it exactly.

As far as the fat in commercial foods, that 50-60% range is, sadly, not uncommon. If you think of balancing the macronutrients (fat, protein, carbs) so that, totaled, they are about 100%, if you lower the carbs, you have to increase fat or protein. Commercial pet food companies increase the fat because good quality protein at the levels a cat "should" have is expensive.

Been there, done that. I've said it before in Trix's condo....knowledge is power, but sometimes it is also an incredible source of stress. But, ultimately, yes, it is power...so I am sure you'll hit on just the right combo for your guys!

And just as I predicted.......I put Allen in the laundry room with the remainder of his canned food from +2 and I went elsewhere. When I came back I asked DH if he had let Allen out and he said "no I left him in there with his dry food".:rolleyes::rolleyes::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Come on Boomer, you are suppose to be going the other way !!!

The whole cat food thing makes me crazy too and dealing with different ailments between two cats can't be fun.

I hope Boomer lets you get out today for a drive .

do you have a Petland near you Judy??? they are very willing to try and order foods in for me as a special order.... they cannot get everything in of course but worth a try... hope today turns around and Boomer gets back to the greens... :bighug::bighug::bighug:

We have a Petsmart. Both of the smaller stores I went to yesterday are willing to order in; I'm just trying to avoid that.....with all the types of food they have one would think I could find one with phosphorous under 200 and low carb
