Can anyone explain this behavior?

She only does this when you use the toaster oven? She doesn't seem to be in pain, but cats are good at hiding it. Can't imagine that using your toaster oven would cause her pain, though.

Squallie has done something similar to this - no toaster ovens involved - but it's usually when he's lying on the bed, or just waking up from a nap. It doesn't happen often, and is new behavior since he has had FD, but I don't really know if that is pertinent.

Since you said "when we are using the toaster oven" I ask when yo are using the toaster oven does it make a smell or sound?
I doubt pain but likely a reaction to the smell/sound or something to due with the oven.

It kinda ticks. But other than that it's the only thing she does it with. Everytime! I think it's cute but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Is he near the toaster oven when this happens? It is kind of adorable, lol, as long as she's not in distress.

She will come to the toaster when we turn it on. It is adorable, but was hoping she wasn't in distress. I have looked up chirping, but it's usually with birds or bugs. Never toaster ovens lol. Or hurting her ears?

If she only does it when the toaster oven is on, I would guess it's the sound. Cat's hearing is very sensitive, twice as sensitive as a dog's. They can hear a mouse footsteps. Perhaps there is a high pitched hum (that you don't hear) that annoys her.

I was wondering if she was chirping but I couldn't hear anything because the sound was going to headphones that aren't even plugged in :p. This may sound weird but I played it again, with sound;), next to Maury and he didn't seem alarmed. (Backnote: Maury heard a youtube video of "my cat tiggy talking / saying hello" and it alarms him because while it's cute, the kitty is probably crying for his human). Maybe the toaster oven gives a frequency that makes her happy/calm. Like Squalliesmom said cats are very good at hiding pain. My boy usually chirps when he bird watches, so eyes wide open and fixed on feathered friends outside :)
For what it's worth, my boy didn't seem concerned by her chatter :cat: he did a little grooming and back to sleep. Figured he would understand what she was chatting better than me.

Aweee that's cool!# what a good boy. If Maury's not bothered!! :) I am glad of the consensus. Me and my husband find it adorable, but can never be too sure with these puddy tats!

I have seen some studies that have suggested she might be calling to the prey. Mimmicking the sound. It's very curious.

If she come to the area when you use the toaster, then I doubt it's causing her distress. There's probably something about the sound or frequency that she likes, in which case, I must say, you may be the only person in the world whose kitty talks to a toaster oven, lol!:p:joyful::cat:

:smuggrin: lol that made me giggle

Growing up we had a cat, Elmo, that would do that if you coughed too much. Could get her to do it by just taking in a deep breath or gasping. She would do it with the phone if it rang too long. She was a silly girl. She lived to be 18 years old.
:D:D
