Mr B's tilt a whirl

I like that yellow today at +3. It'll be interesting to see if Mr. B. is like Teasel: if Teasel drops early he usually gives me a lower nadir and PMPS.
No rhyme or reason here lol and i've given up hoping for it. The best i can aim for is to at least keep him out of the reds.

Nice yellow AMPS! Moving forward - yes, on a bumpy road but moving forward nonetheless. :)
Lol i love your optimism kris, but i dont think for a second that i'm onto something. His numbers will go off the rails again for whatever mysterious reason. i cant account for this yellow amps.

Don't try to account for it, Jen just enjoy it. Your SS tells the story in the scattering of colours over time. Yes, I try to be optimistic because Teasel's responses would drive me bonkers otherwise. :) Let me reassure you, though, that I'm no Pollyanna! I see what I see. ;)

well i'd love to be able to account for it so that i could repeat it lol. Yeah our babies like to keep us on our toes!

There are just some unpredictable kitties, Jen, and it is good to celebrate the good numbers when you see them. Someone explained insulin to me once this way: it is a hormone, not a medication. So it impacts every cat differently. Not like an aspirin - take one, your headache goes away. More like a teenager. One day, he (or she) is reasonable and happy. The next day is a disaster from sunrise to sunset. Some teenagers (and women in menopause) are a mess for several years with hormonal changes; some just wade through with little changes. So it is with cats. Insulin impacts some cats with daily -hourly- changes. Some have predictable cycles and don't bounce much.

Looks like 3.6 u might be good tomorrow AM, Jen. I see you have Mr.B. booked for an appointment with a new vet.
Hi kris. I've got mixed feelings about dragging mr b to yet another vet, and its much further away which stinks. I just want a fresh pair of eyes, to make sure i'm doing everything i can. I dont feel great about this but if they can help at all it'll be worth it. Its not even so much the diabetes, its what looks like worsening arthritis, his thyroid, and whether or not his kidneys are in early failure. I feel a little left in the lurch by our current vet. so i'll pack the litter box in the car and get out mr b"s carrier and go for a bit of a drive next week. Cross fingers for us please!

Crossing fingers now! :)

Fingers crossed here too!
Thanks all i hope i'm not being stupid but i have postponed the appt for now. I had been on the fence about it from the start. I dont want to put mr b through long drives and more stressful visits and tests unless i have something a bit more solid to base it on. I can call and rebook anytime.

You have to go according to how you feel about it, Jen. Meanwhile, continue the systematic increases. Don't forget - you're only at 3.6 u and had been as high as 5+ u.

It's your decision Jen. You know Mr. B best and you'll know if you need to go. You have to do what you think is best, and as you say, the stress of the card ride and vet visit might not be worth it.

Look at the nice yellows!

And I agree that waiting to visit the new vet isn't a bad thing, especially if the car ride will make Mr. B stressed out.

Well, would you look at that blue!!?? The bigger increase to 4 u seems to have jolted him back into responding. :)
Life has been whacky lately. Mr b having nice numbers today has been a treat. Trouble is i know its just trmporary and the bouncing will be coming.

Unless his pmps is similar to his amps, i dont think i'd do 4u tonight. What do you think?

Fantastic numbers! I'd wait to see what PMPS is before deciding on the dose and it's worth getting a +10 and/or +11 to follow the numbers. Yes, there will be bouncing but you know he can come down.

Not sure how to proceed. New territory. Thinking about dosing maybe at +13which based on the curve he may then be between 200 and 250. I certainly would not give him 4u like i did this morning but i really dont know what dose to give, presuming i catc h him before 250. 3u? Really no idea -any input appreciated.

Well son of a gun! Look at Mr. B. go! I suggest you stall to see if he gets above 200. You can stall in 20 minute increments instead of waiting an hour and you'd be more likely to catch him before he hits 250. If you had data in this BG range it would be easier to suggest a dose. Considering that you bumped him up to 4 u just this AM and have no history at this dose and because you got those lovely greens, I'd be a little more cautious. Maybe try 2.5 u? You don't want to lose too much momentum but you don't have data to show his reactions at these numbers.

I'll never understand how a dose one day puts him in blues and greens but the same exact dose the following days only gets him into the yellows. Why? Can anyone explain it to me? Three days ago it really had an impact. Why just that one day? How can it work such magic for one day only? How is it physically possible? Really frustrating. His legs have been so bad for months, and he still drinks and pees a lot.

The biggest possibility is that he bounced the next two cycles after some lower numbers.

The yellows aren't bad - under the renal threshold. So we can be glad he doesn't bounce too high.

And remember that insulin is a hormone. It won't have the same result each time. (Think if that teenager who is a sweetheart one day and a snot the next)

We have another annoying saying: It's just one cycle. Don't despair. He will get lower on other cycle.

Confused with increased bg at +3 today.

Vet appt later. Probably a waste of time. I'm not even getting into diabetes with her. Done flogging that subject. Overall he hasnt been a happy camper and i'm not sure if he's in pain or not.

I've heard others on here say that constipation can affect their kitty's BG levels. Any other helpful feedback from the vet?
She thinks the constipation is defiitely uncomfortable for him, which is prob what i've been picking up on. He had been pooping regularly so i had no idea! I saw the xrays. Lots o poop.

She wants me to lower his insulin by 1/2 u and do a curve to see if we're hitting somogyi again.

Well i'm confused again. Its beeen a few days and we have not seen the good numbers we had initially when we did this last increase. why good numbers the day of increase and since then we have not seen that range again? Too much insulin now or too little?

I dont know if we should go up or down. I dont know if this is somogyi or if he is stuck again. Suggestions?

I dont understand why today with a relatively nice amps he has gone up quite a bit. What do you think?

14 months of diabetes and i still dont know whats going on.
