i did a fur shot.

I am so pissed.

I rarely screw up these shots but when i do i really feel like ****. I dont even know how i screwed this one up. i think he was feeling better today after this last increase, and i had skipped a dose the other night. We were just heading out of the 3 cycles and i am so frigging pissed at myself right now!,!,!,! He's going to feel rotten tomorrow and its all my fault. I am so angry.

1. i wiped it off his fur but he is grooming now. I am assuming ingesting any of it wont do him any good and wont harm him either?

2. Should i withhold his overnight food to try and keep BG from going higher? Its at 304 when he should"ve gotten his lantus.

3. How much sooner can i give his next shot? Normally we do it between 7 and 8. Can i move that up since he got either no-to-little insulin due to my screwup?

Don't be too hard on yourself, we all give a fur shot every now and again. I did it just few days ago. Lol.

I doubt that the small amount of insulin will hurt him.

And he's at 304 at +12 when he should've gotten his lantus. I wonder how high he'll be going. I feel sick.
I hate not being able to do anything about it. Seriously i've been giving him shots for 6 months and feel like i shouldnt be screwing up anymore. He's been sick for so long and this will just delay his getting better even further.

My wife wasn't super confident at giving the shots at first so we shaved a patch of fur on Carter's scruff so she could see better, haha. Pretty much no chance of making a fur-shot! :p

I've learned to accept that fur shots happen along with all sorts of other things that I didn't plan.... We've all done fur shots from time to time for various reasons. Don't be too hard on yourself. Enjoy the rest tonight and remember it's better to be too high for a night than too low for even a moment.

I used to say I wish I had a dollar for every fur shot I have given over the past 6+ years. So a couple of years ago I started to put a dollar in a little basket for each fur shot. When I get enough, I buy a nice bottle of wine (so far this year I only have $3., but there have been times in the past when I have given two consecutive fur shots).

Mr. B will survive!!!

I feel for you. I know how very, very badly you want to see Mr Biddles feeling better. And I know that sick from anxiety feeling only too well; it's a horrible feeling. :(

Try to take a little heart from the fact that Mr Biddles has the insulin depot in his system. He will be getting some insulin. Fingers and paws crossed it will keep him steady until his next dose.

No one mentioned this, and it's after the fact, but when you give a fur shot,do not try to shoot again until close to your normal shot time. You can shoot a little early, but not too much, because you don't know for sure that no insulin went in and you don't want to overdose.

My husband usually give the shots because I have arthritis really bad in my hands and it's hard for me to manipulate the syringe. When I do have to give it, I'd say my fur shot rate is about 25%, so don't feel bad!!!
