It actually swelled up again, Jeanne. She had to have another course of antibiotics last week.
After the previous course of antibiotics Saoirse's eye area continued to heal and the lids started to sink into the orbit as the swelling went down (as might be expected) but I noticed that she seemed very, very sensitive on that side of her face; touch her whiskers on that side and her lip curls up, plus occasionally she dribbles a little bit. Also her breathing has been a little noisy at times since the op (bit like a quiet snore but while she was awake) and that became more frequent. Then the eyelids started to puff out again; almost looked like the eye was still there behind the lids. Saoirse also seemed to have some discomfort when eating (though her appetite is fine - anti-jinx).
Our main vet did a house call last week to examine Saoirse. I think he was a teeny bit unsure about whether or not the eye area was swollen and he wondered whether the lip curling might be due to some post-operative neuralgia. (Apparently it can take a little while for the optic nerve to settle down.) However, he knows that I give a lot of attention to Saoirse and he prescribed another course of antibiotics plus some more bupe. She has responded well to the treatment: the swelling in the eye area has gone down and there's a little hollow again and she has been eating much more comfortably. Our main vet was able to see the very real difference in the eye area yesterday, so at least he knows I'm not completely batty.
