And what did I get Saoirse for her birthday? A blood draw and a B12 injection.

I'm all heart ... :p

BTW, the vets are now officially afraid of Saoirse. She got kitty-burritoed today. :( Daft thing is that she was feeling a lot better than she had been during the time when they were having to put IVs into her leg and consequently was very well-behaved today.

Well, it looks like she's passed the danger point, she's positively glowing...a testament to the stellar care you have given her, Mogs! You are a true heroine.

Wow, Happy Birthday Saoirse! And look how lovely her eye has healed! Somebody get that girl a diamond--studded eyepatch! Oh Mogs, she looks so GOOD!
It actually swelled up again, Jeanne. She had to have another course of antibiotics last week. :(

After the previous course of antibiotics Saoirse's eye area continued to heal and the lids started to sink into the orbit as the swelling went down (as might be expected) but I noticed that she seemed very, very sensitive on that side of her face; touch her whiskers on that side and her lip curls up, plus occasionally she dribbles a little bit. Also her breathing has been a little noisy at times since the op (bit like a quiet snore but while she was awake) and that became more frequent. Then the eyelids started to puff out again; almost looked like the eye was still there behind the lids. Saoirse also seemed to have some discomfort when eating (though her appetite is fine - anti-jinx).

Our main vet did a house call last week to examine Saoirse. I think he was a teeny bit unsure about whether or not the eye area was swollen and he wondered whether the lip curling might be due to some post-operative neuralgia. (Apparently it can take a little while for the optic nerve to settle down.) However, he knows that I give a lot of attention to Saoirse and he agreed to my request for him to prescribe another course of antibiotics plus some more bupe. She has responded well to the treatment: the swelling in the eye area has gone down and there's a little hollow again and she has been eating much more comfortably. Our main vet was able to see the very real difference in the eye area yesterday, so at least he knows I'm not completely batty.

Did Saoirse ever have a drain in her eye?

Very glad that the 2nd round of antibiotics worked for her!

Oh Saoirse shares a birthday with Rosa and Regan - they were 13 on the 1st! I hope Saoirse had a lovely day apart from her treatments - I gave Rosa the awesome gift of sub-q fluids for her special day!! Saoirse is looking so well now - I hope she's feeling as good as she looks. :) :bighug:

I use the same day for Dottie and Gizmo's birthday. I got them both around the beginning of the summer, wasn't sure of their exact age, and April 1 just came in handy.

Over here, it's commonplace to use a drain, although perhaps in this case, the drain might easily have become dislodged. Dunno, since I'm not a vet.

I think it's a bit of guesswork for my 2 as well Jeanne. They were brought to the local rescue close to where I used to live as kittens when they were just 2-3 weeks old. That was the birthday I was given for them when I adopted them, so I just stuck with it.

Happy Birthday Saoirse! And many happy and healthy returns of the day. She looks wonderful, Mogs. We all hope the swelling is a short term thing.

So many kitty birthdays to celebrate! It's also the day we celebrate Erik (8) and Fanny's (4) birthdays. They got tuna and a couple of new toys. :cat:

Woo hoo! Happy sweet 16th birthday, Saoirse! You sure are lookin' good! And how nice of your bean to go all out and get you a blood draw and a B12 injection. Can't ask for more than that! Bet it was just what you wanted. Scritches to you and hugs to your forever person, Mogs! Oh... and Hannie is sending you a birthday cupcake, low-carb and no sugar, of course. Enjoy!

P.S. Lily sends best wishes and 'puffs'

Happy Belated Sweet Sixteen Saorise!!!!

Kitty-burrito and frightening the vets is a good thing in my book. You are gorgeous as ever, clearly loved and cherished - I'm so glad your clever, wonderful Mum is seeing your improvement every day.

I'm very late - just saw this - happy sweet 16 and 1 week- she looks glorious!
So happy for you, Mogs. Congratulations on being such a fantastic kitty mom
You are the best :bighug:

Happy belated birthday to your sweetest girl! (We're celebrating Tasha's 16th birthday today - she's demanding cupcakes and instead caused a snowstorm. Seems about right.)
