Doodles 3/21 First day of .1u R...hopefully at least a drop got in him. The sweet boy got 3 shots this morning but he knows I'm just trying help.

I guess after my long visit with Dr. B she trusts me with his insulin needs as she typically wouldn't agree to R. I was going to do it anyway but wanted to feel her out. Funny though she did say "if you get upto 2u of R stop there and call her" She didn't give me a starting dose but I assured her it wasn't anywhere near 2u! She also prefers to not to let him go below 180 on AT so I said...ok that's about 130/140 on my human meter. That's perfectly fine with me for now. We can only hope to see yellow let alone blue at the moment.

@suki & crystal thank you for being around but I think we'll be fine. I have no idea what time it is for you at the moment :bighug::bighug: I have plenty of supplies and will test every hour for at least the first 4! There is also a great crew of beans online too.

Good luck with the R! Gee 2u seems to be an awful lot; hopefully you won't have to get anywhere close to that dose!
Doodles....come on little guy work the R and come on down! You look so handsome in blue!

Hi Karen, early afternoon for me, 14.00 so no problem. I'll check back in an hour, just going to work in the garden. I was terrified my first time with R, but it all turned out a bit of a non event, we had to go to about 3u before I started to see the benefits, she's now on 10u of R BID, but that's because of her acro, although she did manage to guzzle 26u BID not so long ago!

I do follow Crystal and she sure is a resilient kitty with an amazing mama bean! Thanks again for being around and enjoy the gardening.

Good luck with the R. My vet doesn't suggest dosing for me any more either. I'm glad you have people around should you have questions. This board is a life saver!:bighug::bighug:

Those labs are beautiful!! One thing to be happy about. Now let the meds and R do their job please!
I know right! Such a mystery cat so for now we're going with the new meds as being the major culprit. Still waiting for the Acro/IAA but for now fingers crossed R kicks in. Civie Moo has been mewing, calling him to play and he's just not wanting to participate.

I agree. When you can see that testing is not going to do much more than satisfy curiosity, I say skip it and bank the goodwill you earn with your kitty for when you will need it in the future. Hope he comes down today.

I agree with Suki.....we are building data to see how he reacts to R. I found that Gracie always had the same onset, nadir, and duration. It's important to know that info for the basal insulin (Lantus) and the bolus insulin (R) although I think we realize that Doodles is just high and flat right now.

I know it's hard but try not to get discouraged with the potential lack of response the first several times you use R. It also took Gracie a bit before we started seeing a response and even after that, there were some cycles she didn't respond to it. I don't think that is atypical. I've studied Alex's SSs alot and there were times she did not have a response.

I think studying Bubba's SS is a great idea and I'm glad you looked at it. We will want to take the same general approach here unless Doodles decides to do it his own way. Bubba....could you whisper to Doodles how it's done?

These numbers are just crazy. I did feed him FF at breakfast instead of Tiki but either one he only eats about 1/2-3/4 oz at a time. Sorry about not getting the +3 but it just didn't make any sense. Is it safe to get a +6?

I think you can wait to even later.... +8 or so. I don't think you should give him R again this cycle.....we just want to see what kind of residual response, if any, he has but if he continues this high and flat stuff, we will want to give it more often.

I'm going to try again at PMPS...it might be closer to a .25 because that .1 is ridiculous. These meds are causing weakening of the insulin on top of his recent resistance.

Most cats don't respond much to the 0.1u in a trial. Consider that we don't suggest trying it unless a cat is in an unusual circumstance.

In any case, if you can be up tonight to test those 4 hours again, I think it's ok to try 0.25u at pmps.

One thing I've noticed, and others have as well, is that often the cycle FOLLOWING the use of R shows more of a difference. So although you didn't see much in this am trial, it's possible that tonight he may show some effects. So see where he is at pmps. I can hang with you tonight if you'd like. You're shooting at 5:15 Arizona time. I'm in Oregon and sometimes we're on the same time as AZ and sometimes we're an hour off. Right now I have 12:30 - is that the same for you? I'm thinking Daylight Savings Time is when we're on the same time.

Hi Julie, yes it looks like we're in the same time zone. I plan to take a little cat nap after his +8 so will be up until at least PM +5 and longer if needed. I have redbull stocked:)

@julie & punkin (ga) we are on the same time zone as you now.

I really wouldn't have expected to see a big response the first time even if you'd given him 0.25u R but it was more just to get you a little comfortable and see what he might do. You never know. Once I started using it regularly with Gracie, often a drop would do the trick and then I didn't even have to use it again until the next winter because she always looked crappy in winter.

More :bighug::bighug::bighug: Karen! You and Doodles will get through this! One day at a time.

Good luck with the .25 R tonight. I will be here for you for moral support but I don't know anything about R!

I looked at the micro dosing pics again. If he got any of the R this morning I'd be surprised. I did some more practicing so hope PM will be better. Today's cycle looks very close to yesterday's so will be interesting to see what his PMPS number is.

It does take practice to draw the microdoses so give yourself some time. I know you want the numbers down....so do I. I'm always going to err on the side of caution especially with something like R because we do have the ability to give it more often once we figure out how he reacts to it.
:bighug::bighug:

I've got my nose back in the computer but Julie will be here at shot time and then I'll be around a little later.

It's good to practice with these tiny doses. It also doesn't hurt to have a sample syringe, with the 0.25u dose in colored water (tea, coffee) that you can use as a comparison dose. We know the markings are often inconsistent from one syringe to another, so a sample syringe can help give you some consistency to your dosing.

Shot at 5:20pm since he decided to roam and had to go find him. Geez, turn your back for a second :) I gave what I call .25 of R. Also gave him a metoclopramide compounded treat 30 min before PMPS for the first time.

good job. I don't know anything about metocopramide - do you know if the treat had anything sweet in it? Sometimes they do.

I'll see you at 6:20 to get the R+1.

If you're brave, you can taste the meds. I've never done it but seen some brave people on here who do. If it's sweet, then it's suspicious. But obviously he needs these, so even if they do have some kind of sugar in them, the dose can be adjusted to compensate for it.
