Well, Mr. Harry cat got a dose reduction and was hanging out in the greens yesterday. :D

Going to start out with ANOTHER dose reduction this AM at .5 to see if he can stop nose diving after +2.

Let's do this, Monday!!!

Morning Erika!

I'm not an expert and don't like to give dosing advice since I don't feel like I'm qualified yet. Something to keep in mind though, and I'm sure someone with more experience will swoop in and take over, but you don't want reductions back to back. I think there is a certain space requirement between reductions (not sure if the 2 cycles between met those qualifications or not). The reasoning is that the depot is still full from the last reduction for a bit, so if you have back to back reductions, it could be based on Harry's body still having a depot from the last dose you had to reduce.

Congrats on the reductions though! It's really great news and I hope he holds it for you!!! :) :) :)

Oh man!!! I hope I didn't mess things up!! I'll have to look into it more, but yes thank you for telling me and I'm going to have to keep on monitoring him. Hopefully he can hold these numbers !!

Don't panic! And take that advice from a fellow panic-er :)

One thing about our kitties is that they are very good at bouncing back from little things us beans do. You may be fine though! Let's wait and see if others think the 2 cycles were plenty :)

Ok!! Thank you!! He responds so quickly to this insulin it's kinda crazy. It will be interesting to see what he does.

Well King Harry - not bad for not having a shot last night again! Don't worry about the mess of the depot right now - it's already so wonky from Harry scratching around in it. This is still part of trying to find that right initial dose with a possible sputtering pancreas. It's going be another interesting day in King Harry land!

@missMeows - Gabrielle, you're right, in normal situations, we don't reduce back to back but King Harry isn't playing by the rules. They just started Lantus and still trying to find the right initial dose. So far both of them that have been tried are too much. Read their last couple of condos for the interesting circus going on at their house... :)

Monday Dance!

Gotcha! Thanks for chiming in! I figured I may have missed something :)

Boy Erika, you have been doing a crazy dance! Good thing you are in good hands around here! :D

Oh that's a MUCH nicer set of numbers today...I mean not perfect, but after all the shenanigans you've been through with Harry so far, I sure won't complain!!!

Keep it on the safe side today, huh Harry??

Erika, stall a bit, 20? and see if he's rising or flat...that 108 is low for you to shoot and not be up all night again. This cycle was better than those diving ones even if it wasn't below 100.

If you're up for it, I think I'd try the .5 again and just see how he does

Of course get a +1 and +2 so if you need to intervene, you can start early....you know how he is....LOL

Dying over here!! My mr Harry already has a reputation!!
I'm not sure about the .5 tonight. Really don't wanna stay up again.... Lol

Well we need to find a dose he can have every 12 hours, and he's had a lot of dose changes over the past several days (of course he gave us good reason to!)

If you think you can handle one more night, it might give us some good info as to what to do next with him, but we'll totally understand if you can't too

I'll test again in 10min and see how he is. I need a good mid carb wet food for him. I only have high carb and low carb food. Nothing In between. What do y'all use?

Very true!! Ok I should start now then!! Lol oh Harry, be good to me tonight!!! Lol

OK Harry - be good to mama tonight!

If you don't have med carb food, mix high carb with low carb in the desired ratio until you're at like 11%-14%. Example - half 8% and half 20% gives you 14%. There's lots of ways to adjust it with different combinations.

Ok makes sense! Thank you!!

I'm going to throw this out there right now for everyone to keep in the back of their minds for now. I'm wondering if Harry may need an 18 hour schedule rather than a 12 to let him surf his longer hours. This isn't normal in any way but Harry's refusing to be normal. This isn't something to be jumped on right now unless tonight's circus is still too much excitement. I don't think the dose needs adjusted down further - this would possibly alleviate the need to do that.

Let's see you just surf in nice safe numbers for a while Harry - this is NOT the 'X-treme Sugar games'...

Hmm very interesting! Glad you threw that out there. I'll do some research on it just in case.

just FYI Erika....whatever number you actually shoot is the number that goes in the PMPS cell on your spreadsheet, so tonight's would just be the 112

If you stalled for 30 minutes (for example) you can put the 108 in the +11 cell and put "108 @ +12" and then in the PMPS cell put "112 @ +12.5"

Ahhh! Thanks, Chris! Lol so much to learn!!

OK....I'd go ahead and give him a couple teaspoons of food now....make it medium carb so hopefully we can slow him down a bit

Harry...we had an agreement and you're not paying attention!!!!

Dang Harry - that's not even the insulin talking yet! Will you QUIT please? Slow down and read the instructions! See those 5 gray hairs? Those right there! YOU gave me those!

Erika...girl, you're certainly getting the trial by fire routine! You handle all this so well...I was a basket case when KT hit his first low numbers...

HUGS!!!

Haha!!! You're telling me!! This cat does whatever he wants! My husband said, " are you sure he has diabetes?" Lol

Is Harry a chow hound? As in will he eat unlimited amounts of food as long as it's available?

I might give him a little regular low carb but I don't want to "fill him up" in case we need him to eat again later

Lol. If he's hungry, he will fill up on what he needs and leave the rest. His appetite has calmed down so much in the last few days.

that's not a surprise....when his BG was high, he was literally starving...insulin is the "key" that unlocks the door to the cells and let's the glucose get in, so our diabetic kitties eat huge amounts trying to "feed" the cells

Now that he's on insulin (and I have a feeling his pancreas is sputtering too) he's got the key...so what he eats is getting where it needs to be so he's not needing to eat as much!

Erika, did you make any other changes when you switched him to Lantus? Did he eat dry food on Novolin?

The point of not giving him too much right now is that you may need him to be hungry later if his blood sugar drops and you need to bring it up.

Well that's a relief! I felt so bad because he would follow me everywhere crying for food.
So. Do you think we're good to go to sleep? Or should I hang out with him a bit more? We're cuddling on the couch.

I gradually changed him from dry to wet food this first week he was diagnosed. So on the second week of Novolin he was fully on wet food. :)

I would definitely not leave him yet. Blood sugar can wobble around after the carbs wear off. Even though he's at 78 at the last test, that's with you giving extra carbs, right?
