Colin just gave me a 270 AMPS. Theats the lowest he's been. I retested and got 265. My question is, do I shoot the usual 5 units? I can be around to check him through the day.

Okay, I asked because if it was a stall and retest thing, then you might have a falling number. If you tested him pretty soon after, I would say it's fine.

I don't know...it's a hard call since he hasn't dropped that low in a long while. I hate to say lower the dose because most of the time, this dose hasn't effected him much and when you are seeing such good numbers, you might finally break through. BUT...I hate to see him drop like a stone today.

Here's my thoughts...on 9/18 you shot 5 units into an AMPS of 305. That number is not that different from today's number. SO...IF you will be there to watch him and feel comfortable steering him with food, you could try a 5 unit shot today. BUT...if you feel like you might not be able to steer him effectively, I might drop the dose some...its really up to you. You hold the syringe. I can't guarantee there will be people around today to help (since it's a weekday, you just never know). What's your gut telling you?

All right! Sounds like a plan! I hope my reasoning made sense...I'm working today BUT I will do my best to pop by whenever I can to check on you...and I'll definitely check on you tonight. I don't THINK you have cause to worry...but I would keep a very close and careful eye on him JUST to be sure...and also because today is a great day to gather some data. This will help you know what to do next time he drops a low number on you...you'll see how he reacts to today.

You're doing great! I'm excited to see what the results are from today.

Good morning Bobbie. I see you got weird numbers too, guess our kitty's like watching our tap dancing! Fingers and paws crossed for you and Bubba too.

What an encouraging amps, Sharon. I like the dose you and Rachel decided on - as long as you can be around, I am glad you are going for it. It'd be nice to see some lower ranges for him.

I will be in and out today and watch for you. Remember, if he drops, first offer regular wet low carb and retest in 20 minutes. If he isn't rising and below 50, then a teaspoon of the gravy off higher carb and retest.

Thanks for the encouragement, but looking through his past, he's done this a few times before and just went up during the day:( But I can always hope....

I made the mistake of cutting back each time I FINALLY saw movement (G didn't move much the first 3 months). I had to do a lot of back-paddling as a result. I would continue to shoot the same dose or increases, until you start seeing frequent low blues or any greens, then I would start fine-tuning.

Hi Sharon - I feel your pain - I had a similar experience yesterday - pmps was down last night - I gave him usual dose, and he probably would've gone hypo had I not checked it at 3 hrs so I am in similar dilemma It's easy to get used to pinks and yellows - I'm scared of blues at this point (bad place to be)

Bounce! Still, glad you didn't lower. Next time, a yellow pre shot won't be worrying.

The last time, he didn't stay high, so paws crossed that today will be the same. He cleared the bounce and dropped into lower ranges at the end of the cycle.

I just hope I got the whole shot in him. He has started walking off while I'm injecting him. He won't sit for it while he's eating, so I've always done it after, with no problem. About a week ago he started just walking off-doesn't jump or act uncomfortable. I tried to use alternate sites, but that hasn't helped. Now I'm trying to feed 3/4 food then shoot then give the rest of his meal. I hope that after doing this a few times he'll learn to sit still and wait for more food. Any other ideas?

That sounds like a pretty good idea. Are you able to tent and shoot quickly or does it take a while? It takes me forever to finally inject the insulin. I shoot after he's finished eating My cat naturally walks over to the water bowl and drinks after he eats, then relaxes. That's when I shoot him - after he's finished with eating and drinking. I either pick him up to put him on the table or get down on the floor with him where I kind of hold him between my knees so he can't walk away.

I get on the floor with him. I may try holding him between my knees too, that's how I give him pills and clean his ears-which he hates! It takes awhile for me to shoot too. I used to be faster, I think I'm thinking too much, plus he gets a large dose.
