I am checking out the calculator and just wondering if we are looking at the Wet Matter Carbohydrates number mainly or the Dry Matter Carbohydrates number, or both? We are aiming for 10% carb, correct? I bought some canned Publix (supermarket chain) in the South and the numbers seem to check out ok, just want to be it is a safe food to feed my kitty.

Neither.
You want the percent of calories from carbohydrates.
Divide carbohydrate calories by the total calories.

Ok, thought I understood, but I don't! :arghh: Reason I was trying the calculator, bought Publix (major supermaket in south) brand canned, wet food, ingredients look good, but not sure it is low enough in carbs. I was trying to figure it out with the calculator, but guess I don't understand. Any one know about Publix brand foods?

You enter in the values from the label on the can.
The calculator does the math and on the right side is a column with numbers for protein, fat, and carbohydrate calories, plus the total calories in 100 grams of food.
Take the calories for carbohydrate and divide by the total calories, then multiply by 100. This gives you an estimate of the percent of calories from carbohydrate. Anything under 10% is fine to feed.

Ok, got it this time, thanks again (feeling dumb and dumber)

No worries. You're in the midst of a crash course on feline diabetes.
I know, right! My head is spinning from all the facts and numbers! :bookworm: Sort of interesting what I found out calculating different foods, most of the Sheba entree's were low and so were the Publix brand entree's. The Publix brand foods are very economical. Why is Sheba getting a bad rap? I know I seem obsessed with Sheba, but it's available at a pretty reasonable price and I bought a lot of them. lol Do you double the carb calculations on the small 3 oz cans (thinking not) as opposed to the larger Friskies 5.50z cans?

No. It represents the concentration of carbohydrate calories in the product, regardless of what volume you have.

Everyone has different gifts and talents! Recognize those you have and enjoy them. You have a willingness to learn, to tackle what seems like a huge mountain of information in order to do your best for the animals you have.
