Good morning

This morning again low AMPS 122 and I am so afraid to inject. His inappetance makes me nervous and reluctant to inject on low numbers but the big fluctuation in BG numbers must be very tough on my poor GUS. Today we going to start on Cerenia and hopefully this will help with his eating. I try lots of different foods including raw, home made and oregano, tuna juice, parmesan, FortiFlora and mix. Gus will eat and lick little and walks away when I talk to him and use spoon he will eat little more.
He was diagnosed with pancreatitis based on test fPLI 6.7 at that time (3/25) he was not himself (stayed in his bed in the morning) refused to eat and throw up twice after drinking water. At the vet's he got fluids, Cerenia and Famotidine injections. After that he seemed fine reasonably active no loaf position. His kidney markers blood and urine were all within normal ranges ranges (BUN - 32, Crea - 1.7) urine culture - neg, ketons - neg. His was overweight at 18 lbs but now he weights 14.2 lbs since diabetes dx and remains steady.

My intent was to follow SLGS??? is this best way to go for Gus. We inject insulin at 5:00 AM and 5:00 PM I am retired so I am home most of the time. I have all testing supplies, high carb gray food and karo syrup.

Please let me how to adjust his insulin dosing. I am very concerned about low PS numbers we had once hypo incident and I am so afraid to make wrong decision.

Thank you for all you support.

How about waiting 30 min. and re-testing? You'll be able to tell if Gus' numbers are going up.

Did the vet give you any pain meds for Gus? Most of us use buprenorphine for the pain associated with pancreatitis. It's a very painful condition.

If you are still nervous after 30 minutes you can always do a reduced dose, some insulin is always better than none.

OK waiting 30 minutes and retesting is a good idea will try
I just got bupre (3 days) and cerenia (5 days)

Gus appears very content now, unlike that 5/25 morning where he was in pain. He got better after the fluids and injections he received at the vet. Is it safe to assume that it was acute pancreatitis and for now he is OK?? Vet thinks that it was acute and without doubt there is chronic pancrea deficiency. He didn't prescribe any medication except appetite stimulant that I didn't think make much difference. Base on the advice I got from members of this board I requested pain and nausea meds. and just picked it up.

At this time we are struggling with Gus not eating much in one go this is a red flag for me but it could be life long habit (16 years) of all you can eat dry food.

Today:
I am going to start cerenia 4mg every 24 hours as prescribed - will monitor (any suggestions with/no food, time of the day, before/after insulin etc.)
Administer insulin even with low PS after retest - monitor and pray

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for you time and kindness
