Hello everyone.

Last post: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/3-4-billie-pmps-210-bw-back-looking-good-i-think.134092/

Well, now I'm scared. Billie's appy is still off. She is picking at her food but definitely not eating enough. She is acting hungry and coming over to check out what I offer her, but she's just licking at things and walking away. She even got sick of her ham and boiled pork. She is drinking water and she licked up a decent amount of broth from Weruva Steak Frites last night, although she wasn't interested in it today.

I'm trying all kinds of food at this point. I even picked up some of the Merrick she used to love and will try that tonight. I feel like we're on thin ice considering her food allergies, but as far as I understand, it takes repeated exposure for a couple weeks for an allergic reaction to happen, so a couple days of experimenting shouldn't hurt.

I didn't give her shot this morning because she barely ate and I am out at work today. Her numbers have been very flat around 200 for days now, which is unusual for her.

Considering the appetite issues and the weight loss from 10lbs in October to 9lbs, her vet is worried. He said that her BW and urine all look great, so his next thought is to get an abdominal ultrasound to check for problems...he mentioned the C word. I really hope that isn't what this is. Of course I went on a googling frenzy, and I'm worried about lymphoma. I suppose IBD is a possibility, but from what I have read, her symptoms don't totally fit? She's not vomiting or having diarrhea, although she was having LB issues/discomfort/scooting earlier this week. She had a nice big poo yesterday, so I don't think she's constipated. I read that the first signs of lymphoma can be lack of appy and weight loss. I don't know much about any of this stuff, and I'm very worried. I guess that goes without saying. Her US is scheduled for the 19th which is too far away in my opinion, but there is a specialist who comes in to do them and that is her earliest appointment. I may look into other options like the IM clinic because I don't like waiting.

Her vet said to bring her in tomorrow if she's still not eating well tonight, so that's my plan. I really hope she's okay. She is acting like herself aside from the loss of appetite. She was chasing her toys around in the middle of the night, and when I took out the laser pointer, she came running and went after it.

Any thoughts and vines are much appreciated!! Thank you.

Did your vet run the fPL test for pancreatitis? Max's symptoms for that were inappetence. Let's not go the the other topic unless we have to do it. Unfortunately I have much to say on that topic. This very well could also be IBD. If the fPL was not done that would be my first step before an US.

Hi Elise and Delia, thanks for responding so quickly. Good point, Elise - the vet did not even mention pancreatitis, and I didn't think about it, because as soon as he mentioned looking for the really bad thing, I went into panic mode.

(((Deanna))) I know it seems odd to hope for pancreatitis, but that's not uncommon for diabetic kitties. Have you read Marje's primer on Pancreatitis? It does sound like she's seeing a little nausea. Sending mega appy vines your way. BTW - you could put Billie's name on the condo title.

Thank you Wendy! Yes, at this point, I am hoping for pancreatitis. I will bring it up with her vet tomorrow. I wonder why he didn't think to test for it. I did have one former vet at the same practice who told me that pancreatitis always presents with vomiting and diarrhea, so I guess there are misconceptions floating around. I just re-read Marje's helpful primer. Billie doesn't seem lethargic, but the lack of appetite is definitely there. I hope she'll eat some of the new food options tonight.

Here's some more vines and prayers for Billie- I am so sorry she isn't feeling well. :bighug::bighug: I am the same as Elise wondering about the spec fpL? Although an Ultrasound would give a more clear answer?

IIf I were you, I would consider asking your vet for anti-nausea meds asap- either Ondansetron if it is just nausea, or Cerenia, which worked best for Tiger because she is a vomiter. Please keep us posted!

Thank you Ruth! I will definitely ask about nausea meds. The way she is acting normally enthusiastic about food like she's hungry but then barely eating seems like nausea. It seems like she has an appetite, but doesn't want to eat. I hope she likes something that I bring home later.

Deanna. I'm so sorry Billie isn't feeling well. She definitely sounds nauseated to me. Harvey's first symptom was inappetance, although he was also throwing up clear liquid several times a week. Have you tried baby food? Also, boiled chicken, especially the broth, sometimes works when my kitties feel off. I would not want to wait until the 19th for an ultrasound, so if you have another option, I'd take it. Besides, seeing an IM for his or her opinion is a great idea.

Sending lots of healing and appy vines.

Thank you Tricia - I know you unfortunately have a lot of experience with these issues. I haven't tried baby food, but I will pick some up tomorrow. I forgot that Billie ate baby food when she was nauseous on Clavamox, and she seemed to like it. I am hoping I can get an appointment at the specialty practice where Billie went for her allergies last summer.

I have some good news to report for tonight- Turducken to the rescue!!!!! I got some Merrick Turducken, Billie's all time favorite food that she had to stop eating when she switched to novel proteins. She ate it!!! I would say her appy this morning/afternoon was at 2% but with the Turducken tonight, more like 50%. She ate a decent amount in one sitting and went back for a couple bites a few minutes later. It made me feel a lot better to see her eat. Both cats are relaxing on the couch with me now.

Thank you all so much for stopping by and offering your support! I would be so much more freaked out without your help.

Turducken! Good eats, huh Billie? Deanna, I hope that all will be OK with Billie. Rusty has lost weight over the last year, too, and we are going to have an U/S and a consult with an IM vet on March 26th. He has always been a grazer and not food-motivated, but he manages to eat almost everything in his dish, eventually (especially if I hold the dish while we're watching TV!).
Sending eating vines to Billie and calming vines to you,

Ella & Rusty

Deanna, I am so glad she ate the turducken!!!! Right now, eating trumps just about everything else. Baby food is my stand-by and I try to always have some on hand. If they won't eat that, something is definitely wrong.

We have all been where you are right now, in one way or another. We are here to hold your hand and are sending vines and prayers your way. I hope you can get her in to see an IM sooner than the 19th. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm so glad Billie ate her Turducken. I might still make a trip to the vet tomorrow.

Sending many prayers for good health.

Yay for eating :) Vyktor had triaditis (including pancreatitis) diagnosed by US without diarrhea or vomiting.

Hi Elise and Delia, thanks for responding so quickly. Good point, Elise - the vet did not even mention pancreatitis, and I didn't think about it, because as soon as he mentioned looking for the really bad thing, I went into panic mode.
I've been there with Max. The vet did the US and based on it didn't run an fPL. Then exploratory surgery was recommended. I went back to my regular vet who is also a boarded internist and he had his radiologist do another US and ran the panc tests. That was 5 1/2 years ago and Max was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Surgery was never done.

we've been dealing with IBD/lymphoma issues.... and symptoms are same.... no vomiting, no appetite....
but suddenly a touch of loose poos...
I'm about to start trying raw mixed in again.... see if we can switch.

Hope you get some answers....
