? Zoot! How to check Relion micro that is giving odd readings

I have been using the ReLion Micro for the last 5 months, and recently I have had to check "suspicious" readings. I took three different samples tonight that were 368, 311 and 240 - all within minutes of each other. More and more I have to test him a couple of times just to verify the numbers are accurate. This morning his first reading was 54 - and I KNEW that was not right - I tested him a couple of minutes later and got 304 - which is reasonable although slightly high for him. I don't like that I cannot trust this meter.

Can anyone recommend another meter that takes a small blood sample? or does anyone know whether using any test solution will work on this meter (I cannot find a test solution at walmart for this meter)?

Thanks

Cinnie

Hi Cinnie, you probably aren't going to be able to get control solution for your meter, previously you had to call a number on the information that came with the meter and a bottle was sent out to you. But, the meter has been discontinued, so much for that. :(

Have you tried changing the battery in the meter? You may also have some older strips that are not giving accurate readings. Check the expiration date on your bottle of strips.

I can't offer any suggestions for a new meter, we are still using the ReliOn Confirm (also discontinued) and get the Arkray Glucocard Sensor 01 strips for it from ADW Diabetes. Just recently CandyH & Catcat was posting that Walmart in her area still had Micro/Confirm strips available, but I think stocks are very limited and in some areas just not available.

Oh, and Cinnie, the prefix in your title (GA) is to designate Gone Ahead or Guardian Angel, for a kitty who has passed on. You can use the ? icon in the title instead.

Thanks for responding! I meant to use the ? - did not realize I hit the wrong prefix! Thanks - I have corrected.

I am using the ReliOn Micro with Arkray Glucocard Sensor 01 strips. I changed the battery when I started using in June, but will check that. The strips are well within the date range (09-30-2020).

It is really hard to get blood from Zoot so I am hoping to find a replacement (if I cannot get this one to start reading consistently again) that takes a small sample. Not seeing many options out there.

Hi Connie I'm also from New Jersey, by Giant Stadium. I use the Alpha Trak 2 Pet meter and test strips. It only requires 0.3 ul of blood. The test strips are expensive. I get the strips from ADW Diabetes, the cheapest I have found and they also have promo codes. You can buy the meter that includes some test strips, the solution also.
Go on their site and look ok. Just in case you wanted to go with a pet meter. I never use the lancing device it comes with at all

The Freestyle lite also takes 0.3 microlitre. It is basically the human version of the Alphatrak (same design, both originally by Abbott Labs) However, the strips for the Freestyle lite are still pretty expensive.

We had some discussion here about meters as well as some tips/tricks to get blood, that could maybe help: felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/suggestions-for-human-meters.216471/

use this URL to see if any Walmarts in your area still have Confirm strips
https://brickseek.com/walmart-inventory-checker?sku=13396848

just fill in your zip code, and not a bad idea to save this URL, as some of the Walmarts are restocking the strips after going Out Of Stock

DON'T tell Walmart where you found the info ... it may or may not be accurate

three of the stores in my area just restocked .. and I just bought out the nearest one ... LOL

still available online at Walmart.com .. at the Rollback price, but store stock may be MUCH cheaper (mine were $3 .. and one nearby has them for $1.50)
