Worried about Precious

My beautiful girl Precious seems healthy but has lost weight has a voracious appetite & pees alot. I took her to the vet suspecting diabetes or hyperthyroidism. The vet wouldnt help us at all without running a battery of tests i could not afford. I thought at the very least they could run a glucose test to give an indication as to what might be wrong but they wouldn't treat her at all without me spending three to four hundred dollars. I do understand the need for them to run these tests but to not help us out at all? To let my cat leave without helping us at all? I was willing to spend some money but I just didn't have that much money and I'm worried about her. I lost my soulmate Kitty less than 6 months ago to kidney disease and I don't want to lose Precious.
I guess what my main question is what can I do until I can save up the money to help Precious now?

I'm sorry to hear about Precious. You can try to get a cheap glucose monitor to test her at home (which monitor is least expensive depends on where you live), but you're going to need to get a confirmation of the diagnosis from your vet by running full lab work. You can ask your vet if they may let you pay your bill in installments, or try to find a vet that does, but unfortunately there's only so much that people online can do.

I'm Sorry your vet wasn’t more helpful! What tests did they want to run? A basic exam and basic bloodwork should be all you need to start. Try calling the local shelter and see if there are any less expensive vets around, also check into Care Credit. In the meantime you can also change Precious’ diet to a low carb canned food such as Friskies or Fancy Feast Pates, and pick up a human glucose meter and learn to test her glucose at home. If she’s diabetic then you have a starting point with your vet.
