If you think of this time early on as data gathering, and not get too involved in the individual numbers, it makes it easier to see the big picture.
Strong urine smell when he goes or an ammonia smell coming from the litter? If strong odor when he goes, I think I would consider a vet visit to rule out a urinary tract infection. If ammonia smell from litter, maybe change it more often. In this beginning period, when they are going so often, it can get overwhelming fast.
