I was just on his SS and looking at his numbers and it's discouraging, we stopped all dry food on 2/13/13 and while the numbers looks somewhat better he is still not in any regular pattern. I have been watching like a hawk, testing his BG like crazy and ketones. I start a new part time job next week and then starting back to school next month. I am beyond scared of how this is going to go. We handled the time change thing great so that is a plus. He is happy, playful and lovey. At almost 16 I am wondering if it's too late to get him to somewhat steady numbers and if he will end up with other diabetic health issues because of this? His teeth are fine, have not need blood work in awhile (he is prone to UTI) but since no more dry he has been good with not having bladder issues.
I guess I just need to talk about this with you guys who have been helping and those who may feel the same way.
I welcome all advise and suggestions for Loki and myself to deal with this.
Thanks for reading.

Michele,
You're definitely not alone altho' I don't have to worry about the work part...when I look at KT's spreadsheet I wonder if we'll EVER even string 3 'good' days together and we've been doing this dance for 1 3/4 years. I think we all get discouraged when we can't 'fix it' for them. I have absolutely NO advice but I give really good hugs!

BIG BIG HUG!!!

Sometimes it does take time. Though, to be honest, it's pretty early days for you. Your cat didn't become diabetic overnight, and it can take a while to find ways to achieve better numbers.

I don't use the same insulin as you so can't advise you on that score; but frustration at fluctuating BG numbers is something I've experienced a lot...

My cat, Bertie had dreadful numbers intially; and I mean for a long, long, long time! I felt a complete failure because no matter what I did I couldn't seem to get him in better numbers. And I worried constantly that his organs were about to spark out because of his high sugar levels. I do understand how tough it is. I so remember feeling that my cat was the only one who was doing 'badly' (as I saw it) when every other cat on the forum seemed to be doing just fine, or was even going into remission!

Bertie's numbers just somehow got a bit better over time; and a change of insulin worked wonders for us too.

And as for that organ damage I worried so much about? Well, Bertie had blood tests done a few months ago and the vet was amazed at how good the results were! And Bertie had been diabetic for 6 years at that point...

Remember too that it is not all about the BG numbers. You say that Loki is "happy, playful and lovey". Now that is a tremendous success and worth celebrating

The 5 Ps are a decent way to evaluate your cat, as not everything has a number attached to it!

The 5 Ps are:

Purring - is the cat exhibiting customary signs of contentment or happiness?
Playing - will the cat play and interact with others?
Preening - is the cat maintaining its fur and cleanliness?
Peeing - occurs, and is a normal volume?
Poohing - fecal material is formed and passable?

Michelle & Lyressa,
I'm in the same boat with you girls. Gobbles was 479 AMPS then 362 when I left the house at his +3. I had high hopes that he'd be blue or yellow by the time I got home. Well, I got home at his +6.5 and he was 323. A little disheartening.... BUT I'd rather see that 323 than come home and find him in a hypo-induced coma. My heart goes out to him when he's high (and also when I do a ton of testing) and admittedly, I do shed a few tears from time to time...

I don't have any good answers for you, but I can relate to the concern about managing this issue while juggling work/school/etc, as I am in the same boat. Sending you good thoughts and lots of hugs. Hang in there...
