When I test Gobbles' BG, I give him 1/2 of a Whisker Lickin's Tender Moments treats...I usually test just once or twice a day....however, like today, I will test at least 5 times--wouldn't that be a lot of carbs, even if I gave him only 1/2? Anyone know the carb % in them? Thanks in advance!

Here's the list of low carb treats: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9172

Whisker Lickins treats contain wheat flour and gluten so the carb content is likely high. Many other big name brands of treats also contain flour and other non-diabetic friendly ingredients. Stick with 100% freeze dried meat or fish treats and others listed on the low carb treat list

My two cents

Fancy Feast Mornings & Whiska Lickins

I need help here. I have, on hand, a can of Fancy Feast Mornings Medley with Wild Salmon, Garden Veggies and Egg in sauce plus a pouch of Whiska Lickins treats. I would love to know the carb count in those as I need to have something on hand for hypo this evening/tomorrow morning...until I can get to the store

You answered one of my questions (I asked on 1/8 here)--whisker lickins' is high in carbs and therefore, could be OK for a hypo situation :) Thanks!

Dr. Lisa doesn't have the FF Mornings Medleys on her food chart (yet). This thread might have useful information: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=74767

Dr. Lisa's chart does list FF Mornings Souffle and a similar variety (Wild Salmon, Garden Veggies and Egg) is listed as 21% carbs. The ingredients for the souffle one is nearly identical as the Morning Medleys variety you have so the carb content should be about the same.

Any of the regular FF grilled/sliced/marinated/roasted varieties are good to use for a hypo, as are most of the FF Elegant Medleys  Just check Dr. Lisa's chart for the ones that are at least 18% carbs.

Any canned food over 18% carbs can be used for a hypo, not just FF. I have fed high carb pate Science Diet (I think the one I used was nearly 30%) during a hypo.

For hypo situations, you want something that will digest quickly. That's why we recommend gravied foods. Anything semi-solid or solid is going to take longer to break down, so you probably should stick with a canned food. The dry or semi-dry may be more likely to expand with moisture and trigger vomiting, too, which you want to avoid during a hypo.
