First off… i hate diabetes. Phew that felt good haha

does anyone have experience with dosing pepcid ( for nausea related symptoms)?
I was giving Lando 1/4 pepcid every other day for a week or so. The last two dose days he had midnight vomiting.
It seemed to help his appetite, but it seems to be the vomit instigator.

does anyone have any thoughts for me?
Switch back to cerenia or ondensatron?

thanks in advance

@tiffmaxee i hate to bug you for the millionth time… but if you have any time to let me know your experience with ondansetron i would love that. Specifically, was max on a daily dose for an extended time? Or did you start dosing once nausea symptoms presented themselves?
Thanks i hope all is well

Ondansetron was always my go to for nausea. It worked well for Max when he was nauseous and inappetent. He was on it daily for months at a time. I kept giving it until he was back to normal and then would gradually lower the dose from twice a day to once for example. Some need it every 8 hours. The only side effect I noticed was constipation so I would up miralax when he was on it for extended periods. At first I wasn’t giving him enough and he needed cyproheptadine with it. Once I got his dose right I only occasionally needed cyproheptadine once or twice after he was on ondansetron fir a day.

You aren’t bugging me! I’m happy to help when I can. Some cats need ondansetron every 8 hours.

Pepcid is not used as much as it used to be. Btw one of my girls occasionally vomits clear or yellowish liquid I try and see that she eats more often but some of the time it’s from trying to vomit a hairballs she’s quite the groomer

Thanks for being available, i can only imagine how many pings a day you get ;)
This is helpful re the month long daily dosing. I wanted some context before i asked my vet to write me a script.

its funny, lando didnt vomit before pepcid, only stipped eating and licking plastic ( pica). It sounds like pepcid wasnt as effective as i hoped. I believe i never dosed lando high enough with cerenia or ondansteron. Sooooo back to a more informed try with that.

the good news is today ( after the mega barf bomb at 3 am) he is the best energy ive seen him in i dont know when.
He is a mystery to me.

thanks again Elise, you are so extremely helpful

Oh and youre lucky you have a primper ;) lando needs sponge baths and attention to his delicate areas ;) lucky me haaaaa
