Asking for a friend. I used to get thyroid meds for a cat many years ago
from Walmart.

Can one get thyroid meds for pets at Walmart....or any where else that
is cheaper than at the vet.l...even mail order ?

Walmart does have a pet pharmacy, however, all meds may not be stocked in all Walmarts.
I would compare on-line pet pharmacies like Allivet, Valley Vet and others for best price

Hi Karen! (waving hello)

I'd try thrivingpets.com or another pet pharmacy ... maybe check pricing against what the vet would charge.

Just some background:
Cats and dogs usually have opposite thyroid problems and thus need different medications. Cats tend to go HYPERthyroid (high) whereas dogs typically become HYPOthroid (low).

The common treatment for a hypoT dog is levothyroxine (thyroid-tabs). Levothyroxine is a human drug and is sold at Walmart BUT dog dosages are much stronger than human dosages so Walmart may not carry what your friend needs (dog doses are typically measured in milligrams whereas human doses are in micrograms).

Until they get to the appropriate dose, your friend might want to buy from the vet. That way they can buy small amounts and won't end up with lot of pills of the wrong dose.

Healthwarehouse.com has low cash prices. They have a pet medication section too.
I use them for my medicine that my insurance won't cover.
