? Where to get Cabergoline

Great news! Morticia’s vet approved us for Cabergoline yesterday!! Now we’re anxiously awaiting for him to send us the script which brings me to the question, where does everyone get it from? I know it needs to be from a compound pharmacy but is there anything I need to know specifically? We have a veterinary compound in town but does it have to be a specific kind of compound pharmacy, I know some people get it shipped to them but if we can get it locally it’d be ideal.

A bit long, but this post describes dosing and various places people get it compounded.
Cabergoline as a possible treatment for acrocats: discussion
Apparently bacon marshmallow is the favourite flavour. :p
Thank you so much Wendy you’re the best! That was the thread I was trying to find but I scrolled through so many I could not for the life of me remember which one had the info about the pharmacy’s! I did remember the flavors though lol

Since you’re very knowledgeable the vet just called about her prescription and told me they called it into a compound pharmacy for me and it’s going to be $600! I’m assuming because they sent in for a quantity of ten which I thought was weird cause it would go bad? But my question more is the dosing. Morticia is 11lbs so this seems like a small dosage, correct?
“Medication: Cabergoline 100 ug/ml
Directions: Give 0.4ml by mouth every 48 hours
Quantity: 10”

From that same article "starting dose of cabergoline of 10 micrograms per kilogram by mouth once daily."

11 lbs is exactly 5 kg, so you'd give 50 micrograms per day. Since there are 100 ug/ml in that cabergoline solution, you would give 0.5 ml per day. What size amount do you get for that $600? I'd definitely start with a smaller cabergoline vial, just in case for some reason her body reacts badly to it. The typical side effects are GI issues, but I don't know how long the product lasts either once it's compounded. If you do start with giving it every other day, that's just 15 ml per month. Not sure what they mean by quantity 10 - 10 what? If 10 ml, that's way too much to pay for 2/3 of a months supply.

So when I spoke to the pharmacy they said it’s 10 vials which is apparently 50 days worth so I asked how long that was suppose to last in terms of shelf life and she said 90 days so a 50 day supply for exactly $695 WITHOUT shipping which was another $35 to $40. I called her vet and asked if we could use a local pharmacy instead and have it written to be purchased monthly incase things don’t work out or work out significantly and he said that his tech must have given the wrong information and it was suppose to be monthly and up to ten vials I guess. I’m hoping our local compound is not that pricey. When I called she was shocked by that amount so i’m assuming it’s going to be cheaper here but she also said she’s never worked with Cabergoline before but she was excited to look into things and see how to suspend it for Morticia.

How much cabergoline in each vial? Not sure they have the math right yet. It should be one months supply, with possible prescription renewals up to 10.

Which pharmacy did you deal with first?

I have no clue, I asked but she just repeated that all ten was a 50 day supply so I gave up cause none of the math made sense to me and the vet tech only gave me the bare minimum information when I asked for Morticia’s full script so I could have the information to get quotes. I believe they said it was Stokes, out of New Jersey. When her vet called he said he only called them because they were the only ones he knew for sure that had Cabergoline so I let him know that my local one said they can get it and also that most people here seem to use Diamondback.

Good luck with the new supplier. We've had people use local compounding pharmacies for cabergoline, as well as the major on line ones.

I had seen that in the thread so that’s why I assumed that my local one should be good to do it and we could avoid shipping, etc. I’m just eager to get her treatment going. I’m trying to remain realistic in case it doesn’t work out but i’m very hopeful and something is telling me it will. Hopefully things will get sorted out with the script and we can start her next week. Also I know you had asked previously on my other thread about her IGF-1 results and they forwarded them to me today, unfortunately they were very high. >1200.

I obtained my Cabergoline from Wedgewood Pharmacy and it wasn’t nearly that much money. I hope you can get some for a reasonable price.

Okay, I checked a few posts I had made and I said I was paying about $50 per month for the Cabergoline (based upon how many doses were in the bottle.)
