Could someone please take a look at my spreadsheet and possibly explain to me what I am looking at?
I recognize the numbers are high across the board, however I plan on giving the second injection at about 9:40 pm. This will be the first time Goma has received two injections the same day. Vet is still saying I should move slower. I see a high of 708, a low of 577, then a slight increase, but then another slight decrease back to 579 at the 8 hour window. I will be performing the pre shot bg test and not sure what I should hope to see. Sorry, but being really new to all this I am abit gun shy at the moment. What would cause the numbers to stay so high, and why would it go up and back down later in the cycle. I thank you in advance.
 
The highest BG should occur prior to the shot, then you should see the numbers begin to come down until they reach nadir (lowest point) which can occur at different times (I have seen it anywhere from +4 to +8 with Mia) then you should see the numbers begin to rise to where you are back to a larger number before the next shot. It is not always perfect though. Numbers can fluctuate based on a lot of factors.. did they eat, did they get excited about something, etc. But, all of those 500 numbers you got are close; they are pretty much the same when you take into consideration that the meter can be off a few percent. I have two thoughts here: 1) The dose is not high enough. The normal starting dose is usually 1 unit twice a day. 2) You are using an expired vial of insulin according to your other post, so it is a strong possibility that it has reduced effectiveness.
 
I agree. There may be some effect of the 0.5 dose (it's a little hard to tell at the really high numbers), but not much so far. Could be that the dose is too low, or it could be the insulin effectiveness. And then, as FurBabiesMama says, there are other factors that won't be clear until you have several days or weeks of data-- the numbers today could actually be a response to something that happened yesterday, for example, which you can't tell just by looking at these.
 
Before or if islander moves to the prozinc forum I just wanted to get this in one last time. It's a 14 hour time difference between Eastern Standard and Okinawa. Is there a way to note that in the spreadsheet? Someone might look at a post one day and think AM and PM got mixed up. That's a long flight, where's the ashtray?
