When to switch to new pen/vial - good to the last drop?

Hello!

We have made our way mostly through our first pen and have the next one ready. We have about 20 units left and it looks clear and we are still seeing Sugar’s numbers go down after his dose. There is an air bubble that has built up over time. Is the last bit any less potent? Should I switch to the new one or use the existing one until it’s empty? If it’s suggested to switch, would you keep the almost-empty one as a back-up?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Ok, great! Thank for chiming in.

One thing I do to get rid of the bubble is to turn the pen where the bubble is near the cap and use a syringe to pull out the bubble. Then I toss the syringe.

Will try that! It’s getting close to where we draw from, so that could make the last draws easier.

I am seconding, thirding all the suggestions above. Landos lantus pens lasted 6 months. There was still insulin in the pens when i switched to a new pen ( his numbers were the same during the switch FWIW)
