So Blitzen started vomit this morning and has continued up to this moment. It seems to come every hour or so.
He had a dental a week ago this past Friday and went for his post op on Friday…all looked good.

He is still on 2.5 mm of amoxicillin twice a day , gabapentin twice a day, and Buprenex twice a day. It is given with food to avoid stomach upset. this morning he vomited that and his food up and hasn’t stopped since. He hasn’t eaten or drank anything. It seem to come every hour or so and it’s foamy at times or bile …just depends.
not sure what to do as the vet is closed and my only choice is an emergency vet.
Thoughts and suggestions please.
I did do the pulling back of the fur and it does snap right back so I don't think he’s dehydrated yet

I just read your other post, on another thread, concerning all of his meds. I'm not sure why the vet would want antibiotics for 20 days, and both gaba and buprenophine. That just all seems like so much. Also, in your other thread, you shared that Blitzen has CKD. Gabapentin can be hard on cats with kidney disease, from what I"ve read. I wish that I had better advice for you right now. It"s very concerning that he's been vomiting all day. If he doesn't stop and he can't eat or drink, a trip to the ER may be your only option. At least they could give him some fluids and maybe a shot of cerenia for the vomiting. Please keep us posted.

In cases like yours I give them 24 hrs, if not better then off to vet.If he is lethargic then off to vet now.
How long on the amoxi? Some vets give 7 days and some 10 days for post-teeth extraction.
If the pain meds (I agree it is strange to give both) are for post dental, routine is about 3-5 days. One of my vets gives about 3-5 days and another an extended bup that last 3 days.

why so much pain med? I would stop the pain meds ... it's probably all upsetting his system.

We are back from the Vet. Everything check out fine on is blood work up except mildly elevated pancreas enzymes.
Vet said it could be caused by the constant vomiting or his pancreas caused the vomiting.
He is off all meds now from the dental but was given an injection of Cerenia, Famotidine, vitamin b12 shot, and subcutaneous fluids. I was also sent home with Cerenia to give tomorrow and Wednesday. I did take the Hills I/D for now and he ate a tablespoon just a little while ago. He wanted more but I didn’t give in. I’ll see how this goes and offer him more in a couple of hours.
Vet did say his gums from the dental look amazing , he did say I could get him back on the antibiotics and gabapentin on Wednesday if I want but if he shows any signs of illness stop….needless to say I’m done with it !
I was up all night with him so we are both exhausted. I will keep you all updated…thanks for the support ❤️

I thought 20 days of antibiotics was overkill as well as two weeks of gabapentin. His pain med was just about out so that would of been a 10 day course.

He struggled with the gabapentin so I went to a compound pharmacy and has it made , it was much better.

His vomiting didn’t smell and it was foam at time other times it was bile .

Should I continue with the small amount of food throughout the next few days?

Might be a good idea to set up your signature, it's at the end of everyone's post in gray

Click on your name upper right hand corner , a drop down will appear , tap in signature , fill out info
  • On the left, under Settings, Click on Signature. This is where you will put information that helps us give you feedback. There is a limit of two lines which may include two links; you may separate pieces with commas, dashes, | etc. This is where you paste the link for your spreadsheet, once it is set up.
  • Add info we need to help you:
    • Caregiver & kitty's name
    • DX: Date
    • Name of Insulin (do not include dose or frequency)
    • Name of your meter
    • Diet: "LC wet" or "dry food" or "combo"
    • Dosing: TR or SLGS or Custom (if applicable)

    • Spreadsheet link. Please put the signature link on the bottom line of your signature information, on its own, so it is easy to find.
    • Please do not put any information about your location in the signature for security reasons. If you wish to add your country location, please add it to your profile.
Be sure to click the 'Save Changes' button at the bottom. If you need help urgently it is important we know these things at a glance. We don’t want to waste valuable time finding out information.

I'm so glad that Blitzen is doing g better! (:
It was a good call, bringing him to the ER, as it sounds like they did a lot to help him to feel better. Giving him a little food at a time, as opposed to free feeding, may be a good idea for today. But if he seems hungry and needs more, I think it's OK to let him eat. Did the compound pharmacy give you tansadermal gaba? I'm glad that you stopped the other two meds. That was too much, and maybe they caused the problem to begin with.
And it's wonderful that his gums are looking great from the surgery!

As far as the gabapentin it was supposed to be transdermal but for some reason they had a hard time making it…not sure why. I got the liquid in chicken flavor. Since it doesn’t have all the fillers it was a smaller dose.

I’m happy he seems to be doing okay but I feel this is far from over, don’t know why.
I will never have another pet, I just can’t deal with the added stress of it. I’m sick to my stomach and am a bundle of nerves , just waiting to her that sick meow sound . Maybe a good nights sleep will help.

I completely understand feeling so stressed out. I'm also in the midst of caring for a very sick kitty, and it really is stressful and heartbreaking. Try to make time for taking care of yourself. I'm also a big believer in a good night's sleep.

Just called the vet as I see some drooling around his mouth. He just use the litter box and it’s diarrhea. Anyone have any idea what the will tell me to do, is this normal?
waiting on the tech to call back

I tried to respond to your post last night, but the site was down for a while. How's Blitzen today? What did the vet say?

Hi,
Blitzen seems a little better today . I guess the drooling was caused by the meds and has now stopped. I left a plate of food out for him when I went to bed and he ate it at some point. I haven’t had any luck today with him eating . If he doesn’t eat by tonight I’ll get the transdermal appetite stimulant for him. I’m thinking his stomach just doesn’t feel good and maybe as the goes on he will want to eat. I did leave a plate of food for him about 20 minutes ago down in the basement as that’s where he was hiding, I’ll check on it soon. When he uses the litter box it’s pretty runny so I will keep a close eye that he isn’t going to often.
Thanks for checking in on us I appreciate it. I’m hoping he’s going in the right direction now .

mommy need a vacation after this

update

he didn’t touch the food so I put it on my fingers and got him started and then laid him on me and held the plate while he ate it. 1/4 can of his FF is better than nothing

At least he ate a little, and that's good. It was smart, putting it on your finger first and then putting him in your lap. He loved the attention! I hope it all subsides and that tomorrow will be a better day for him, and for you. You're doing such a great job with him, and it would be nice to be able to stop worrying so much and actually relax.

Good Morning
Well he still won’t eat and drink so I was giving him water vis a syringe. I did see little spots on my floor this morning, not vomit but maybe some drooling. He jumped into the tub and demanded I turn the water on a slow trickle and he drank and drank so I’m hopeful it stays down. I did call the vet and I’m going in a few minutes to get the transdermal appetite stimulant. I do have a question, since I’m desperate for him to eat and the pate isn’t doing it for him I’m feeling tempted to buy the FF grilled . I know it’s high in carbs but I think he will go for it since he really loves it and doesn’t get it. Thoughts?

I actually started to think I was going to have to put him down if I can’t get him to eat and drink because he will starve and that’s not right . I can not hospitalize him because I went through my funds on his teeth extractions. With everything as of right now I’m $3,000 into it. I can’t do much more and no way can I do the I hospitalization route. Ugh , I am not rushing to anything and will allow a good week to see how this resolves as he is a little better but he needs to eat and drink. Fingers crossed the meds make him want to eat.

Well I bought him the food he should have and he gobbled a 1/2 can down, prayers it stays down .
If it does I will give him more in two hours. The water stayed down so maybe he’s turning a corner.

just a thought . He got so sick after eating his normal ff that maybe he just turned off of it right now? People get that way or at least I do so maybe that’s the problem. This will not however stay his diet , this is just an emergency case for the next few days

I'm so glad that he ate something he enjoyed!

That's absolutely possible. He may have an aversion toward that food right now. He may enjoy it again later (some day), or maybe not. It happens to felines just like it happens to humans. I'm glad that you found something that he wanted to eat.
