Poked Tibby's ear this morning before breakfast. I thought I was going to get something, milked it, but got nothing. Then Tibby shook his head hard because of the annoying sensation on his ear. And then there was a perfect drop of blood, ready for testing, right where I had poked. Go figure. :woot:

I find with smokey, if Im not getting anything, if I back off for a second or 2...no presure...I'll get it when I try again. Sometimes if I just stop trying to force it, it'll just come up on its own too.

Hi Marsha,

Some others have also reported that the cat's 'head shaking' has actually helped their efforts to get blood. ...It's happened to me quite a few times too. Occasionally I do have difficulty getting blood from Bertie's ear, and then sometimes, just as I manage to get that precious drop, he shakes his head and the drop disappears. ...But then I look at his ear and realise it is bleeding so much more easily.... Hmmm.... Maybe the cats are trying to help us out? Ha-ha!

I have also found that when my kitty gives a good shake...just as I am "milking the drop" that it ends up with a perfect size drop for the test. I used to "scold" him (very nicely ;)) and tell him to keep still. Now I am just as happy to let him shake. Just like Eliz said " Maybe the cats are trying to help us out?"
