I have no clue that to do with this one, this is not my sugar cat but my other cat Etoile who is around 9 or 10, he just had a wellness physical because I changed him to Loki's vet, anyway. The vet felt nothing or heard anything, but he was guessing hair balls when Etoile makes this awful sound of retching and looks like he is trying to get something up, but nothing comes out. I have him on Miralax 1/2 teaspoon 2-3 times per week because he bounds up with this long angola fur. I have tried hair ball laxatone nothing seems to help. He does not do this often but enough for me to be concerned. I would say 2-3 times per week . Any ideas ? All the 5 P's are in place. I am stumped.
Thanks so much for reading.

No throwing up at all? Just wretching? No fluids or food? And how long has it been going on? When was his last fur ball and how often did he have them?

Have you tried vaseline? Small dab on the paw. He will lick it off and it might help it pass. But if this doesnt clear soon I might be inclined to get an xray or something to confirm if it is a fur ball.

It isn't a confirmed fur ball, yet. Its retching behavior.

It could be a fur ball as that is common in a long haired cat. Next step might be an X-ray to see if there is any evidence of obstruction. It is possible to be partially obstructed with some fecal material being eliminated, but not all. If he gets into a crouched position with that hacking, it might be asthma, too, or something else.
