Wondering what everyone's feeding schedule is? For Jill, she eats one can of wet food a day, broken into 4 feedings. Someone suggested to me that I try to only feed her before insulin (Lantus) shots and then maybe one mid-day meal. With 7 other cats, we have a very strict eating schedule - no free-feeding here. What has everyone found is best for their kitties?

Yes, posting in the right place.
Most of us give a main meal before the shots am and pm and then a couple of snacks during each cycle, preferably in the first half of the cycles.
When are you feeding?

With Lantus you need to test, feed then shoot in that order. The whole process should be within about 15 mins or less.

With the am schedule I would be inclined to give another snack around +5. Is that possible?
With the pm cycle/schedule, I would scrap the 6pm meal ....or just make it a very small snack if that is when you feed the other cats, and it would be much better feeding the main meal at 9.30 pm when you give the shot and then another snack a couple of hours later. Is that doable?
 
I’ve been giving the same amount of food (1/4 can) at each of the 4 meals but I can adjust somewhat. The very late night meal might be impossible to pull off. She will HATE it.

Is there anything to feed her that wouldn’t affect insulin or bg levels? Would a 0 carb snack be ok at the time when her current meal isn’t ideal - like the 10:30 am (+1) or the 6 pm (+8.5)?
 
Any of the low carb meals (10% or under) are fine.
How big are the cans? Only 1 can a day sounds a very small amount to be giving a cat.
 
The can is 5.5 Oz and the food chart says it’s 2% carbs. (Up until Dx she was eating half that can and about 1/4 dry food.) Does that mean I don’t have to change her mealtimes that much? Maybe get in a +5 snack but otherwise ok?

I think you need to be feeding her before both doses of insulin and then the other meals you are giving are ok plus that +5 snack.
If the +5 snack is only for the am cycle I would make the last snack at night a bit bigger.
 
In the am she eats right before insulin, in the pm she eats about 15 mins after - is that ok? Or I could do pm insulin 45 mins later than usual, but would that throw off the morning insulin too much?

It's so tough to work around all the other cats' eating times!
 
Is that the 10pm meal? The only issue with that is ...what if she won’t eat for you and you have given her the dose?
If you are confident she will eat I guess it is OK. You don’t want to be throwing out your schedule every day.
***For others reading this....do not follow this with your cat. This is for this cat only. You need to test, feed then shoot.
If you are doing this I think you need to give her another snack a bit later to carry her through to the next morning with the insulin aboard.
 
We’ve been lucky; she has a great appetite and I know she’s hungry when she goes into the kitchen and yells! So I feel ok about feeding after the shot. My husband says he will give her a very late night snack since he’s up anyway. I’m going to try this new feeding schedule next week after her curve on Monday.
 
I'd give 4 meals per cycle, so 8 meals in a 24 hour period. It's good to give snacks in between shot time meals. :)

I agree with Bron, you wouldn't want to just assume she'll eat her PM meal after insulin. I might offer her at least a bite or treat to make sure she's got her appetite for when you do feed her 15 min later.
