Welcome! Here is a link posted periodically by one of our long time members. Quite possibly you will find some answers to your questions there:

As far as testing glucose levels, you should always test before you give the shot. Getting periodic tests in-between the shots is helpful too so that you know how the insulin is working.

What insulin is she on and how many units?

Come back and ask questions. I don't have any personal experience with kidney issues but a lot of people here do. Again, hopefully the link will answer most of your questions and also show you where to look for additional help.

There is a big difference between renal insufficiency and renal failure...insufficiency is totally treatable

Dry food for a cat with renal issues is absolutely the wrong way to go because a. KD is too low in protein unless your cat is in renal failure and b. dry food will exacerbate the situation by causing more dehydration, and it may be that this food is what brought about the diabetes in the first place. please, read the links given and come on back. and check out www.catinfo.org for more info on diet.

If your cat has CRF you can feed her canned Friskies Special Diet. The only flavor you really need to avoid is the Chicken & Gravy because of the carbs. My cat Witn had both CRF and diabetes and she was on this diet for several years. During this time both her BG levels and kidney values remained stable.

thanks for the info on friskies canned food!!

I forgot to mention my girl is going to be 17 this year..
