What to do?

I recently started Pedro on insulin and am home testing and I am giving him is injections 12 apart. I will be returning to my classroom in a few days and work a part-time job a couple of nights through the week. My husband will have to travel out of town for a two week training session for his job which means there will not be anyone home to administer his evening insulin. Right now Pedro gets his shots at 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.. I must leave home no later than 4:30 to be at my part-time job so that I can clock in at 5:00. Do I given Pedro his normal dose (1 unit) an 2 hours early? Do I reduce his dose? I should also note I do not get home until 10:00 p.m. Suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

i am fairly new at this myself so I don't know that I can give much advise but you'll need to include what type of insulin you are using. It is helpful if you put that in your signature and set up a spreadsheet so that someone can help you. The people on here are great!

Pedro is currently using Vetsulin - 1 unit twice daily.

It'll work best to find someone to give him insulin if you won't be there every 12 hours.

It can be done but not optimum at all. A few years a go my cats were on a 16/8 hour schedule on the weekends. I used Lantus which is not as good for schedule variations as a non-depot insulin like Vetsulin.
I would test the BG vefore each shot and adjust the does based on experience, the measured BG and the time before the next shot. After the long period BG is very likely to be high and you do not really want to increase the dose since the next period is short.
