What to do? Fur shot.

I am 95% sure I had a fur shot this morning. I could feel liquid on his fur after I pushed the plunger. What should I do? I am afraid to give him more insulin and I am afraid not to.

DO NOTHING! No more attempts - as you don't know how much Fluff got...just write FS in your SS and test...

Remember Lantus is a depot drug - there's already some in his body and it'll be released along the way ...sorry to see he's so high...but you don't want to risk and OD. Then you'd be dealing with a hypo situation - nothing worse!

When I test, what do I do if he goes black? You can see on his spreadsheet that he was black for quite a while 2 days ago.

I'm going to tag some of the more experienced members as I have not dealt with high numbers.
@Wendy&Neko, @Jill & Alex (GA), @Marje and Gracie, anyone familiar with high numbers and FS... I only adhere to the basic rule of never attempting a second shot - no way to know how much might have gotten in...

Unfortunately, there isn't anything to do to counteract those higher numbers after a fur shot. You just get back to business on the next cycle. :( Hopefully enough insulin got in so that the numbers don't go too out of control for you.

You just have to wait it out. Never give a second shot. They do get some even if it's a drop. He extra careful with the PMPS shot so you really make sure he gets it. In the meantime he gets a pokie break and you can run errands without to much worry.

A little late with my suggestions, but when I did a fur shot (often came in threes :arghh:), I would do just one test a couple hours late, then do something for myself that day. The one test is because often more insulin gets in than you think.

I think that tonight you can get a +2 or +3, and if it's not substantially lower than PMPS, put away the test kit until the AM. The effects of a reduced dose can be seen in later cycles. But every once in a while a cat will decide to really work the juice after a fur shot, hence getting that one test, just in case. Otherwise, use the opportunity to get some sleep. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future for Gomez to keep you up. :cat:

Oh, yes, the dreaded FS. I agree with Wendy, mine always came in threes also! And yes, do something nice for yourself after you confirm that the numbers are not going down.

Every time I gave a fur shot (which I did often), I would put a dollar in my fur-shot basket. At the end of the year I would buy a nice bottle of wine.
Fur shots are inevitable. Don't give more insulin until your next shot time.
My husbands missed shots we could have bought a car! What a great idea!
