I have followed the advice I was given on here and Ive never given insulin if Squidgy's bgl was below 10. (180)

Since yesterday morning his levels havent been out of the blue at all. Should he be getting any insulin now?

It is great to see that his pancreas has started working well! Do you know how to measure 0.1u of insulin? Basically pull in the plunger to like the 0.5u mark and push back in until it just touches the zero line. I personally would prefer to see the numbers a little lower in general, since they are still a smidge higher that what I would consider non-diabetic numbers. I would only give the 0.1u a try if you will be home all day to test and monitor though!!!!

HI Pria,,

This is time that the Wikia site calls "playing chicken". Scary but exciting! I like your numbers with .25. They were never down in a dangerous range - just nice and blue. As long as you are able to monitor, and you leave food out so he can bring himself up, IMHO, I would go with .25.

Having said that, you have to go with what you makes you comfortable. BTW, great job testing and recording!

Well I decided to kinda 'play chicken'. I didnt give him any shot last night again, cos I was sooo tired, I was worried I wouldnt wake up to check him. I gave him .25 this morning (his numbers were up to 11.2 anyway). When I checked him 3hrs later he was at 2.5! He obviously didnt eat as much as normal with his shot. Anyway I fed him his fave food and he scoffed the lot. When I checked again, it was up to 6.4.

I think tonight I will reduce it!

Kelly its really difficult to measure tiny doses on these syringes, but Im doing my best. ;-)

Well, shows you what I know (don't know!) But it did give you data.

Were you waiting for the dental? Did it ever get done?

You could try a drop - that might be easier than trying .1. You can practice by filling the syringe with just a little and practicing leaving just a drop in the syringe.

Do you sure feed several small meals during the day?

It was worth a try Sue. Especially with his number this morning!

No he still hasnt had his dental. He had anti B's for a UTI and only finished them yesterday. I was going to book him in for next Monday!

Our farm is only a mile away, so I pop home several times a day and fill up their food bowl. So they always have food, when they want it, but Squidgy gets a fresh tin opened with his shots. Not sure what it is, but when he hears the tin being opened, he thinks he's getting something different.

Im going to go and practice, with water, getting the tiniest amounts in and out of the syringe.......wish me luck!

Now Im screwed! Just tested and the number was 7.2 (130). I looked online and it says that is the high end of a normal non diabetic cat. Oh God, do I give any insulin or not?!

This is good news, right? He is going down on his own.

Don't know if this will help, but here is great explanation of how to dose tiny doses. I copied it from Sheila + Beau + Jeddie, helping Pam and Alley in the Levemir forum with your same tiny dose issues:

The drop method I use is to practice with a used syringe and water or expired insulin and draw up 1u, then twist the barrel (clockwise if the needle is pointed away from you) slightly until a drop forms on the end of the needle. It will be about the size of the end of a straight pin. Flick it off and twist to form another one. Practice until you get 10 drops that size from one unit and 5 drops that size from a half unit. Those would be .1u drops, so you can dose fairly easily in any increment of .1u. If you want to perfect that, try for a drop HALF that size. Those would be .05u drops.
