What should I be expecting

My boy was diagnosed with diabetes last week He has been put on insulin. We think we have managed to inject him twice last night and this morning . He has been eating. 2 sachets of wet food so far today. My concern is that he has become even more lethargic since last night. He is showing no signs of tremors. He has not got off my bed since this afternoon 1pm it’s now 6pm That is not like him. He normally is downstairs waiting for his food. Tell me is it the insulin that is making him feel like this ? Obviously if this carries on I will take him back to the vets. What was everbodies experiences when they first started giving insulin to their cats
 
Hi and welcome to the FDMB! Sorry to hear your kitty isn't feeling well but we need more information.

What type of insulin? How much are you giving? Do you have a home testing meter so you can check his blood glucose?

It is common for cats to be a little lethargic at first when starting insulin but it could be other things too.

Just an FYI....GA stands for "Gone Ahead" or "Guardian Angel"....we use that prefix for when our kitties have passed. A lot of people think it means General Advice (or that there's a lot of members living in Georgia!)
 
I removed the "GA."

Rosemary -- I get worried whenever I see someone post that their cat is lethargic. Cats can become hypoglycemic without having tremors (or seizures). If you are able to test, please get a blood glucose reading. If you can feed your kitty regular food or something you know is higher in carbohydrates and observe if his behavior becomes more normal, then it may be that the insulin brought your cat's numbers too low.

If the lethargy persists, you may need to get your kitty seen by an emergency vet.
