I have an elderly cat on steroids and want to monitor her bg. I used a OneTouch ultra2 years ago (strips expired 2014). Thinking I'll need a new metre. What are current best choices?

A lot of people use the FreeStyle Lite (strips roughly $80/100). Small drop of blood.

There is also the Bravo meter ($40/100). Large drop of blood. The downside is that you can only get strips online. Drugstores do not carry them.

If strips are still available, your OneTouch is a metre that you are already familiar with.

Not all cats on steroids develop diabetes but it is wise to check their bg numbers.

Hello, been a while. :) Another option I used, as do a few others near the border, is to cross border shop. I had a US post box and got ADW to ship there. Accucheck and Contour test strips are around $75 for a hundred at London Drugs though both need 0.6 microliter. The Freestyle Lite is also around $75 at London Drugs but smaller blood drop. Though you probably want to buy just 50 packs if you can get them, for as often as you'll need to test.

I have a cat who's been on pred for 5.5 years. Still, thankfully, registers normal BG. (antijinx)
